Samsung Galaxy Note9 Rear Camera Replacement

Replace the rear camera on your Samsung Galaxy Note9 with these steps:

Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Insert the SIM card eject tool into the hole on the SIM card tray.

Press firmly until the SIM card tray is ejected.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM card tray

Remove the SIM card tray.

The SIM card will fall out of the tray easily.

Step 3 | Apply a heated iOpener

Power off your phone.

  • Apply heat using a hairdryer, heatgun, or an iOpener to the right edge of the back for about a minute.
  • The adhesive underneath should soften during this time.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the back cover.

  • Lift with a suction handle to create a gap between the back cover and the frame of the phone.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If the glass is badly cracked, cover it in packing tape to create a surface for the suction cup to adhere to.

Do not apply excessive force; instead, reapply heat if the adhesive won't budge.

Step 5 | Cut through the adhesive

Be cautious when cutting around the camera bezel and top edge, as there is extra adhesive.

  • Cut carefully near the fingerprint sensor to avoid damaging the ribbon cable.
  • Apply more heat if the adhesive feels stubborn, do not apply more force.

Step 6 | Slide the opening pick

Start at the center of the device.

  • Cut the adhesive along the right side using an opening pick.

Do not insert the pick more than halfway into the phone near the fingerprint sensor or cameras, as this may damage internal components.

Be cautious near the corner as the glass is fragile.

  • Apply additional heat if adhesive becomes stuck.
  • Leaving an opening pick in the upper-right corner.
  • Use another pick to cut adhesive around bottom-right corner, leaving it in place for future use.

Step 8

Apply heat using a heat gun, hair dryer, or iOpener to the left side of the rear panel for 3 minutes to loosen the adhesive.

Careful around corners, glass is weakest there.

  • Insert an opening pick into the lower-left corner of the rear panel.
  • Use another opening pick to cut adhesive along the left edge of the rear panel.
  • Avoid inserting picks more than halfway on the left edge, near the fingerprint sensor; this may damage the ribbon cable.
  • Picks falling out as back cover separates is normal.

Insert the opening pick into the upper-left corner of the rear panel and carefully slice through the adhesive.

  • Cut along the top edge of the phone to separate the remaining adhesive.

Apply additional heat as needed with an iOpener, hair dryer, or heat gun to assist in cutting the adhesive.

Separate the right side of the rear cover first.

Tilt the cover up along the left edge to expose the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable.

Do not pull out the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable yet, as it might remain attached to the midframe.

Step 12 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Use the tip of a spudger to carefully lift the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable out of its socket.

Remove the back cover.

To avoid damaging your phone, test it after completing this step.

  • Use tweezers to remove any remaining adhesive from the phone's chassis.
  • Clean the adhesion areas with high concentration isopropyl alcohol (at least 90%) and a lint-free cloth.

Only apply new adhesive after verifying your phone is functioning properly.

  • Apply new adhesive to the back cover, then align one edge of the glass with the phone chassis.
  • Firmly press the glass into the phone, ensuring a secure fit.

Step 14 | Remove the upper midframe

Remove the nine 4mm Phillips screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Insert the tip of a spudger into the upper-left corner of the upper midframe.
  • Be careful, as the upper midframe can snap back in place.

  • The upper midframe will eventually come out completely with gentle prying.

  • Pull the wireless charging coil off the battery, starting with the left side.
  • If needed, use an opening pick to cut through the adhesive.

Use care when handling the wireless charging coil, as it may be fragile.

  • During reassembly, snap the midframe into place first.
  • Then, adhere the wireless charging coil to secure it in position.

Step 17 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the orange ribbon cable using the tip of a spudger.

Step 18 | Remove the midframe

Remove the nine 4mm Phillips screws from the plastic cover next to the battery.

Remove the plastic cover located beside the battery.

Locate the lower midframe.

  • Insert the tip of a spudger into the top of the lower midframe.
  • Pry gently until the lower midframe separates from the phone.
  • The lower midframe will snap out of place.
  • Remove the lower midframe.

Step 21 | Remove the front camera

  • Hold the front camera connector in place with one hand.
  • Pry the front camera connector straight up with the tip of a spudger.

Be careful not to bend or damage the connector.

  • Use tweezers to carefully remove the front camera from its socket.

Step 22 | Remove the iris scanner

  • Disconnect the iris scanner from the motherboard using a spudger.
  • Remove the iris scanner with tweezers.

Step 23 | Disconnect the front sensor array

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently dislodge the front sensor connector from its socket.

Step 24 | Disconnect the display assembly

Disconnect the display cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Disconnect the touchscreen cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 26 | Disconnect the charging assembly

Use the flat end of a spudger to disengage the charging assembly from the motherboard.

Locate and remove the three 4 mm Phillips screws indicated by small triangles marking their positions.

Do not pull the motherboard out if it becomes snagged on any cables — risk of damage.

  • Use a spudger to gently lift the motherboard from the upper-left corner.
  • Remove the motherboard carefully.
  • Move any ribbon cables out of the way as needed.

Step 29 | Remove the rear camera

Insert the spudger into the rear camera connector and gently pry it straight up, away from the motherboard.

Apply gentle heat with a heat gun, hair dryer, or iOpener for 1 minute to soften the adhesive surrounding the rear camera.

Do not press on the lens of the rear camera — risk of damaging it.

  • Pick up the motherboard carefully.
  • Press the metal bezels with your thumbnails to separate the rear camera from the motherboard.
  • Stop when you feel the rear camera starting to separate — do not press it out entirely yet.

Insert the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the rear camera and the motherboard.

Lift gently to separate the rear camera from the motherboard.

Step 33

Disconnect the rear camera connector from the motherboard.

  • Identify and locate the rear camera module.
  • Gently pull away the rear camera module to separate it from the motherboard.
