Samsung Galaxy Note9 Headphone Jack Replacement

Step 1 | Eject the SIM card tray

Insert the SIM card eject tool directly into the SIM card tray's access hole.

  • Press down gently on the eject button until the SIM card tray is ejected.

Step 2 | Remove the SIM card tray

Remove the SIM card tray.

The SIM card may fall out easily once the tray is removed.

Step 3 | Apply a heated iOpener

Power off your phone.

  • Prepare one of the following tools: a hairdryer, a heatgun, or an iOpener.
  • Apply heat to the right edge of the back for about a minute to soften the adhesive underneath.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the back cover.

  • Lift with the suction handle to create a gap between the back cover and the phone frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

If the glass is badly cracked, cover it in packing tape before using the suction cup.

If the adhesive won't budge, apply more heat instead of excessive force to avoid breaking the glass.

Step 5 | Cut through the adhesive

Risk of damage to internal components exists if not cut carefully.

  • Cut around left edge near fingerprint sensor with care.

Do not apply excessive force to adhesive.

  • Apply more heat instead, as needed.

Step 6 | Slide the opening pick

Insertion of tool too far can damage internal components.

  • From the center, cut adhesive up and down the right side using an opening pick.
  • Avoid inserting the pick more than halfway when near the fingerprint sensor or cameras.

Be extremely cautious when working near the corner, as the glass is fragile and prone to damage.

  • Apply extra heat if necessary to prevent the adhesive from becoming stuck.
  • Leave an opening pick in the upper-right corner of the phone.
  • Insert another opening pick at the bottom-right corner and use it to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave this second opening pick inside the phone for now.

Apply heat to the left side of the rear panel using a heat gun, hair dryer, or an iOpener for 3 minutes to loosen the adhesive.

Be cautious around corners, as glass is most fragile there.

  • Insert an opening pick into the lower-left corner of the rear panel.
  • Cut adhesive along the left edge with another opening pick.
  • Avoid inserting a pick more than halfway near the fingerprint sensor to prevent damaging the ribbon cable.
  • Allow opening picks to fall out as the back cover separates, if necessary.

Apply gentle pressure with the opening pick around the upper-left corner of the rear panel.

  • Cut through the remaining adhesive along the top of the phone.
  • If necessary, use an iOpener, hair dryer, or heat gun to apply more heat at the cut site.

Remove the right half of the rear cover.

  • Tilt the rear cover upwards along the left edge.
  • The fingerprint sensor ribbon cable will be exposed, but do not disconnect it yet.
  • The fingerprint sensor cover may remain attached to the midframe.

Step 12 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Use the tip of a spudger to gently lift the fingerprint sensor ribbon cable out of its socket.

Remove the back cover.

  • Reinstalling requires prep:
    • Use tweezers to remove old adhesive.
    • Clean with 90% isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth.

Test your repair before reassembling the phone.

  • Apply new adhesive to the back cover.
  • Align one edge of the glass and press firmly into place.

Step 14 | Remove the upper midframe

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the nine 4 mm screws securing the upper midframe.

Insert the spudger tip into the upper-left corner of the upper midframe.

Pry the upper midframe gently outward until it releases its snap-fit connection.

  • The upper midframe may require gentle prying to dislodge from its snap-fit position.

Peel the wireless charging coil off the battery starting from the left side.

  • Use an opening pick to cut any adhesive if needed, despite its relatively weak hold.
  • During reassembly, begin by snapping the midframe into place before adhering the wireless charging coil.

Step 17 | Disconnect the battery

Disconnect the orange ribbon cable from the motherboard using the tip of a spudger.

Remove the nine 4 mm Phillips screws from the plastic cover beside the battery.

Remove the plastic cover adjacent to the battery.

Insert the spudger tip into the upper part of the lower midframe.

  • Pry the lower midframe gently to release it from the phone.
  • The lower midframe should come off easily due to its snap-fit design.

Be gentle when handling the lower midframe to avoid damage.

Step 21 | Remove the front camera

  • Pry the front camera connector straight up using the tip of a spudger.
  • Remove the front camera with tweezers.

Disconnect the iris scanner from the motherboard using the tip of a spudger.

  • Tweezers can be used to carefully remove the iris scanner

Step 23 | Disconnect the front sensor array

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry out the front sensor connector.

Step 24 | Disconnect the display assembly

Disconnect the display cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Disconnect the touchscreen cable from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Locate the motherboard screw locations, indicated by triangles next to the holes.

  • Remove the three 4 mm Phillips screws securing the motherboard.

Do not pull the motherboard out if it becomes snagged on any cables.

  • Use a spudger to gently lift the motherboard from the upper-left corner.
  • Remove the motherboard carefully, taking care not to damage surrounding components.
  • Move ribbon cables out of the way as necessary to prevent snagging.

Step 29 | Remove the headphone jack assembly

Remove the 3.2 mm Phillips screw from the headphone jack.

Insert the spudger tip into the notch next to the headphone jack contact points.

Pry the contact board straight up to free it from the adhesive underneath.

  • If still stuck, apply a drop of 90% isopropyl alcohol into the notch and let it soften the adhesive.
  • Try prying again once the adhesive has been loosened.

Remove the headphone jack assembly with a pair of tweezers.
