Samsung Galaxy Note8 Display Assembly with Frame Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling to minimize risk of explosion or fire if accidentally punctured.

  • Follow this guide for replacement of display assembly and frame on your Galaxy Note8.
  • Rear glass cover removal is required; acquire replacement adhesive for reassembly.
  • Opening the device will compromise waterproof seals, necessitating seal replacement to maintain water resistance.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone.

  • iOpener is required to soften adhesive; prepare it according to manufacturer's instructions.
  • Apply the heated iOpener on the back of the Note8 along the side with the power button.

Step 2

Apply a suction handle to lift the back cover.

  • Create an opening pick to access the gap, inserting at a lower angle from underneath due to the curved edges.
  • Start at the middle of the side and use the suction handle to pull up while cutting adhesive with the opening pick.
  • Avoid over-leveraging the opening pick to prevent breaking the back cover.

Move the pick towards the bottom corner and leave it in place to prevent re-adhesion to the case.

  • Add another pick at the top corner, if necessary.
  • Reheat the iOpener as needed if the adhesive becomes stubborn

Step 3

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 2
Thumbnail 3

Move the opening pick around the corner and along the top edge, reheating with an iOpener as needed.

Leave the pick at the top right corner to prevent adhesive from resealing.

Step 4

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3

Insert an opening pick at the bottom of the device.

  • Pry gently, working your way along the edge to loosen the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick at the bottom right corner to maintain separation and prevent resealing.

Step 5

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not force the back cover open.

  • Verify that adhesive is separated on all three sides before lifting.
  • If necessary, use an iOpener to soften the adhesive and try again.

Be cautious of the fingerprint sensor connector when flipping the back cover open. You may need to disconnect it according to the next step.

Step 6

Step 6 image

Check if the fingerprint sensor connector has already detached during removal.

  • If it has, set it aside for later use.
  • Otherwise, carefully disconnect the connector using a pair of tweezers.

Step 7

Step 7 image

Remove all residual adhesive to prevent damage during future repairs.

  • Remove the back cover.
  • Clean the phone's surfaces using a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

Step 8 | NFC Antenna and Charging Coil Assembly

Step 8 image

Remove ten Phillips #00 screws.

Step 9

Step 9 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert an opening pick along the top edge, positioning it between the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly and the case.

  • Lever the top of the NFC antenna and charging coil assembly out of the case.

Step 10

Step 10 image

Remove the charging coil and NFC antenna assembly by gently pulling it upwards.

Be aware that a small area at the bottom left may be secured with glue.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect

Step 11 image

Disconnect the battery connector with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 12 | Battery

Step 12 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the display for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the battery.

  • Reheat and reapply as needed.
  • Alternatively, apply isopropyl alcohol under each corner of the battery and allow it to penetrate for several minutes to weaken the adhesive.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Thumbnail 2

Do not apply excessive force when prying up the battery, as this may cause damage.

  • Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry up the battery from the top right corner.
  • Pry against the case directly above the mainboard to avoid damaging nearby components.
  • Reheat and reapply the iOpener as needed to soften the adhesive.
  • Once the spudger is under the battery, use it to pry up the battery until an opening pick can be inserted.

Soft-shell lithium-ion batteries may leak chemicals, catch fire, or explode if damaged; avoid deforming the battery with excessive force or metal tools.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Thumbnail 3

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up the top left corner of the battery near the flex cable.

  • Slide the spudger along the side of the battery to break apart remaining adhesive, focusing on the areas marked orange.
  • Avoid prying into the display's back panel area, which is marked red.

Step 15

Step 15 image

Do not reuse the removed battery — potential safety hazard.

  • Lift the battery out of its case.
  • Replace with a new battery.

Use caution: avoid touching adhesive areas without proper cleaning and protection.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive from the phone.
  • Clean glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

Damage to the coax cables or tension on them may occur if not removed.

  • Remove the two coax cables running from the daughterboard to the motherboard.
  • To avoid damage, use a pair of tweezers to carefully disconnect both ends of the white coax cable and remove it.

  • Apply heat to the adhesive beneath the microphone flex cable until loose.

Do not remove the microphone at this stage.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully lift the microphone out of its recess.
  • The microphone should now be loosened from the mid frame.

Step 28

Step 28 image

Thumbnail 2

Careful not to damage surrounding components when disconnecting flex cable.

  • Use a spudger to pry up the motherboard, taking care to avoid damaging nearby parts.
  • For easy removal, consider lifting the motherboard with the daughterboard still in place.
  • However, if removing the motherboard only, use caution when disconnecting the flex cable.
  • The motherboard's loose fit on the mid frame allows for multiple spudger positions to facilitate removal.

Step 29

Step 29 image
