Samsung Galaxy Note8 Battery Replacement

A charged battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured.

  • Battery Discharge: Drain the battery below 25% before disassembling.
  • Swollen Batteries: Exercise caution, wear eye protection, or seek professional help.

Opening the Note8 will damage the waterproof sealing. Replacing adhesive is required for proper reassembly.

  • Remove the rear glass cover.
  • Use replacement adhesive to secure the back cover when finished.

Never heat your phone, and consider injecting isopropyl alcohol around edges if needed for adhesion removal.

Step 1 | Back Cover

Step 1 image

Switch off your phone.

  • Prepare an iOpener to soften the adhesive on the back of the Note8.
  • Apply the iOpener along the side with the power button on the back of the Note8.

Apply a suction handle to lift the back cover, creating space for an opening pick.

  • Avoid excessive force; leverage the opening pick at a lower angle from underneath, starting at the middle of the side.

  • Use the suction handle to pull up while cutting adhesive with the opening pick.
  • Maintain the pick's position near the bottom corner to prevent re-adhesion.
  • Insert another opening pick at the top corner, if necessary.
  • If struggling to move the pick, consider reheating the iOpener and reappling it to the back cover.

Step 3

Move a new opening pick to the top edge, keeping it at a slight angle around the corner.

Reheat with an iOpener if the adhesive is still sticky.

Position the pick at the top right corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4

Rotate the device and begin separating the adhesive at the bottom using an additional opening pick.

Leave the pick at the bottom right corner to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Ensure the adhesive is separated on all three sides before attempting to lift the back cover.

Do not force the back cover open, as this may cause damage.

  • If the back cover does not come off or begins to bend, reapply heat using an iOpener to soften the adhesive.
  • Prior to flipping the back cover up, take note of the fingerprint sensor connector.
  • In some cases, you may need to disconnect the fingerprint sensor connector as described in the following step.

Step 6

Inspect the fingerprint sensor connector

  • If it has detached, skip to the next step.
  • Otherwise, use a pair of tweezers to carefully disconnect the fingerprint sensor connector.

Step 7

Be careful when handling the complete charging coil and NFC antenna assembly.

  • Pull up the complete charging coil and NFC antenna assembly.
  • The bottom left part may be slightly stuck to the frame; gently pry it loose.

Step 11 | Battery Disconnect

Step 11 image

Disconnect the battery connector with the flat end of a spudger.

Step 12 | Battery

Step 12 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the display for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the battery.

The battery may rupture or swell during this process; exercise caution.

  • Reheat and reapply the iOpener as needed.
  • Alternatively, apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol under each corner of the battery and allow it to penetrate for several minutes.

Step 13

Step 13 image

Soft-shell lithium-ion batteries can leak chemicals, catch fire, or explode if damaged.

  • Pry up the battery from the top right corner using a spudger's flat end.
  • Be cautious when prying against the case above the mainboard to avoid damaging nearby components.
  • You may need to reheat and reapply the iOpener multiple times to loosen the adhesive.

Do not use excessive force or metal tools, as they can damage the battery.

Continue prying until you can insert an opening pick to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 14

Step 14 image

Locate the top left corner of the battery where the flex cable is attached.

  • Use the flat end of the spudger to pry this area, keeping within the orange marked regions.
  • Slide the spudger along the side of the battery to release any remaining adhesive.
  • Avoid prying near the red-marked area in the middle, as this is the back of the display.

Reusing a removed battery poses a safety hazard.

  • Lift the battery out of the case.
  • Replace with a new battery.
  • Remove any remaining adhesive and clean glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

  • Adhere to the installation instructions for battery adhesive.

  • Follow custom-cut adhesive installation guide carefully.
