Samsung Galaxy Note20 Wireless Charging Coil Replacement

Discharge battery to below 25% before disassembly for safety. A charged battery may cause a thermal event.

  • Battery warning: If swollen, take necessary precautions.
  • Follow this guide for wireless charging coil removal or replacement on the Samsung Galaxy Note20.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Power off your device completely before disassembly.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate carefully, as excessive heat can damage the screen, internal battery, and plastic rear cover.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear cover and the frame.
  • If having trouble, apply more heat and try again (difficult for older phones).

Insert an opening pick into the gap but do not insert more than 5 mm or risk damaging internal components.

Step 3 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Insert the opening pick no deeper than 5 mm to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge towards the bottom left corner.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the corner to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Repeat heating and cutting process for remaining three sides of rear cover.

  • Insert new opening picks in gaps created by corner picks.
  • Leave a corner pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing.
  • If rear cover is still attached, try slicing through adhesive again with an opening pick.

Step 5 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover by lifting it straight up.

Step 6 | Remove the motherboard shield

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six 4.0 mm screws securing the motherboard shield.

These screws may be difficult to remove if they have threadlocker on their threads.

  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it is replaced in its original position.

Careful handling required — motherboard shield edges are thin and sharp.

Lift the motherboard shield with a pair of tweezers.

Step 8 | Disconnect the battery

Use a spudger's pointed end to pry up the battery press connector, holding the motherboard shield with tweezers.

Pry only under the edge of the connector to avoid damaging the socket and surrounding components.

  • Re-attach by carefully aligning the connector, pressing down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeating on the other side.
  • Avoid pressing down in the middle. Misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage to pins.

Step 9 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Use a spudger to gently pry up the wireless charging coil press connector

  • Tweezers can be used to hold the motherboard shield out of the way.

Step 10 | Remove the wireless charging coil

Grip the motherboard shield with your fingers.

  • Pull the wireless charging coil away from the device, it is held in place by light adhesive.
  • Once loose, remove the wireless charging coil.
