The screen's fingerprint sensor is embedded, so replacing it may be required if the sensor isn't working.

  • Discharge the battery to below 25% for safety and to reduce thermal risk during repair.
  • Note: You can skip removing the loudspeaker and earpiece speaker for this procedure.
  • When reusing the screen, apply plenty of heat and handle with extreme care during prying.
  • Be cautious as there's a high chance you may break the display panel during disassembly.
  • If your battery is swollen, take proper precautions before proceeding.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Step 13 | Adhesive information

Step 13 image

Remove the screen. Weaken the adhesive at the perimeter of the screen using a tool, then carefully cut through it.

  • Note: The front-facing camera and fingerprint sensor are also secured with additional adhesive.
  • Insert opening picks beyond the adhesive is not recommended as it may damage internal components.

Step 14 | Loosen the adhesive

Step 14 image

Apply a preheated iOpener to the top of the screen for two minutes.

  • The iOpener should stay warm for up to 10 minutes.
  • Reheat only as needed.

When using an alternative heat source like a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, exercise caution to avoid overheating and damaging the phone's screen or internal battery.

Step 15 | Separate the perimeter adhesive

Step 15 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the heated top edge of the screen, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If the screen is badly cracked, cover it with clear packing tape for better suction.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape or superglue the suction cup to the broken screen if needed.

Be careful when handling the screen, as it may be fragile.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with steady force to create a gap between the screen and frame.
  • If creating a gap is difficult, apply more heat and try again, repeating this step if necessary.

Insert the tip of an opening pick into the gap at a steep angle.

  • Push the opening pick down until it's level with the screen.
  • Ensure the pick slides over the front-facing camera without pushing against it.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent adhesive re-sealing.
