Samsung Galaxy Note20 Earpiece Speaker Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly to prevent thermal events and damage.

If you have a swollen battery, take extra precautions.

  • Follow this guide for earpiece speaker removal or replacement on Samsung Galaxy Note20.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Power off your phone completely before starting disassembly.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat and damage the screen, internal battery, or plastic rear cover.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, close to the edge.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear cover and frame.
  • If you're having trouble, apply more heat and try again (older phones may be harder).

Do not insert an opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone — internal components at risk of damage.

Step 3 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Insert the pick no more than 5 mm into the phone's adhesive to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge towards the bottom left corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the bottom left corner to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Insert a new opening pick into each gap created by existing picks in corners.

  • Continue heating and cutting the adhesive along remaining three sides of rear cover.
  • Leave an opening pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing.

If the rear cover remains attached, slice through adhesive again with opening pick, taking care not to push too hard on the device's fragile components.

Step 5 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover by lifting it straight up.

Step 6 | Remove the motherboard shield

Threadlocker may interfere with removal of motherboard shield screws.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six 4.0 mm screws securing the motherboard shield.
  • If the screws are stuck, use caution and try to remove them without damaging the threads.

Label each screw for easy reinstallation in its original location.

Careful not to cut yourself on the sharp edges.

Hold tweezers to grasp and carefully flip back motherboard shield.

Step 8 | Disconnect the battery

Hold the motherboard shield aside using a pair of tweezers.

  • Pry up the battery press connector with a spudger's pointed end, carefully prying only under the edge to avoid damaging the socket or surrounding components.

Avoid pressing down on the middle of the connector — misalignment can cause pin bending and permanent damage.

  • To reattach: align and press one side until it clicks, then repeat for the other side.

Step 9 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Use a spudger to carefully pry up the wireless charging coil press connector, holding the motherboard shield aside with tweezers.

Step 10 | Remove the wireless charging coil

  • Grip the motherboard shield firmly with your fingers.
  • Pry the wireless charging coil up and away from the device using a gentle peeling motion.
  • The wireless charging coil is secured to the device with light adhesive, which will need to be overcome for removal.
  • Once released, carefully remove the wireless charging coil.

Step 11 | Remove the earpiece speaker screws

Remove the earpiece speaker from the using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove five 4.0 mm screws.

Step 12 | Remove the earpiece speaker

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger under the earpiece speaker's bottom edge.
  • Pry up the earpiece speaker with the spudger to loosen its grip on the frame.
  • The earpiece speaker attaches along the top edge and can be released by prying it loose.

Step 13

Remove the earpiece speaker.

  • Lift it out of its mounting.
