Samsung Galaxy Note20 Daughterboard Replacement

For your safety, discharge the battery to below 25% before disassembly, as this reduces the risk of a thermal event if the battery is damaged.

  • If your battery is swollen, take necessary precautions before proceeding.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Step 1 image

Power off your phone completely before disassembly.

  • Apply a preheated iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution:
    • Do not overheat the phone.
    • The screen, internal battery, and plastic rear cover are susceptible to heat damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear cover and the frame.
  • If you encounter resistance, try applying more heat and repeating the process.

Do not insert an opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone to avoid damaging internal components.

Step 3 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Do not insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge towards the bottom left corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the bottom left corner, preventing re-adhesion.

Step 4 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Insert new opening picks into gaps created by existing ones in corners.

  • Heat and cut adhesive along each side, working from initial cuts.
  • Leave a pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing.

If rear cover remains attached after all sides are cut, reslice adhesive with an opening pick.

Step 5 | Remove the rear cover

Remove the rear cover by lifting it straight up.

Step 6 | Remove the motherboard shield

Step 6 image

Remove the six 4.0 mm Phillips screws securing the motherboard shield using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Be aware: If these screws have not been removed before, they may be stuck due to threadlocker.
  • Keep track of each screw and ensure it is reinstalled exactly where it was originally located.

Risk of accidental damage from sharp edges.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to lift up the motherboard shield.
  • Flip the shield back, taking care not to touch its thin and sharp edges.

Use a spudger to pry up the battery press connector from underneath its edge.

  • Pry carefully to avoid damaging the socket or surrounding components.

Never press down on the middle of the connector — risk of pin bending and permanent damage.

  • To reattach, align carefully and press one side until it clicks into place.
  • Repeat on the other side; do not press the center.

  • Insert the pointed end of a spudger into the top left screw hole near the loudspeaker.
  • Pry up and detach the loudspeaker from the frame using the spudger.
  • Lift and remove the loudspeaker with a pair of tweezers.
