Screen Replacement For Samsung Note 20 Ultra

Note: Samsung Note 20 screen replacement requires a back glass attachment in some cases.

  • Create custom back glass to avoid damage from scratches or drops, if necessary.
  • Replace the original screen with a new one, attaching it securely to the phone's frame.

Step 1 | Identify the problem

Caution: If your OLED display is cracked, there's a risk of further damage during the repair.

  • Assess the damage and confirm that only the back glass is affected.
  • Use a heat gun or similar tool to apply heat to the back glass.
  • Be aware that alternative methods, such as using a crock pot with rubber insert, may also be effective.

Step 2 | Prep for back glass removal

The back glass is extremely hot, avoid touching it.

  • Prepare the ifixit splicer by applying 99% alcohol to loosen adhesive.
  • Insert the push tool from the bottom edge of the device, working straight up and down.
  • The tool will meet the frame when a sound is heard.
  • Slide the tool at an angle and stop when it reaches the curved edge.

Step 3 | Back Glass Removal

Loosen the bottom pull tool using a twisting motion.

  • Apply heat to the area where the back glass is attached.
  • Pry the back glass loose with your fingers, then lift it up using the suction cup.
  • Slowly apply the splicer to the curved edge of the device, wiggling it down along the curve as you go.

Step 4 | Remove Sim/Stylus

High five yourself, you've completed the repair without any damage.

  • SIM card removal is next.
  • Take out the stylus.

Step 5 | Wireless Charging Coil

Remove 6 PH000 Screws from the wireless charging pad covering the battery connection.

  • Disconnect the wireless coil from its connections using a plastic spudger.
  • Use the spudger at the top to pry the metal bracket under the wireless charging pad's top edge.
  • Lift and slowly wiggle the charging pad off, locating the battery connection as you do so.

Battery connection exposed — risk of damage if mishandled.

Step 6 | Disconnect Battery

Remove the battery using a spudger.

Step 7 | Ear Speaker Bracket

Locate and remove four PH000 screws securing the ear speaker bracket.

  • Disconnect the corresponding connector from the bracket.

Inspect the removed connector to determine if it's a proximity sensor or another component.

Step 8 | Mainboard

Use a spudger to carefully disconnect all yellow boxed connections.

  • Remove the two PH000 screws holding the camera in place.
  • Lift the mainboard with the spudger from the ear speaker, moving it downwards while using the frame as a leveler to prevent damage or snagging on any remaining connections.

Be cautious and slow when handling the board to avoid damaging delicate components.

Step 9 | Front Camera

Do not damage the Front Camera, as it is serialized to the phone and cannot be repaired if broken.

  • Apply heat or use 99% alcohol to loosen the adhesive holding the camera in place.
  • Use a straight edge blade to carefully break the adhesive loose at the bottom of the camera.
  • The glue/adhesive should come out in one chunk; gently lift the camera out slowly.

Step 10

Remove five PH000 Screws securing the loudspeaker bracket.

  • Lift out the bracket using a spudger.
  • Disconnect the flex cables from the microphoned board and charger port.
  • Remove three Black PH000 Screws securing the microphoned board and charger port.

Step 11

  • Lift out the Microphone board.
  • Lift out the charge port, gently wiggling it loose.
  • Use a point end of a spudger at the indicated location to help loosen any adhesive.

Step 12 | Small Parts

  • Remove two PH000 screws from the top-right corner.
  • Lift out the top-right flex cable using a moderate amount of force.
  • The top-right flex may detach from its connection; proceed with caution.

  • Apply heat to loosen adhesive holding it in place, if necessary.
  • Remove two PH000 screws from the bottom right corner and lift out the flex cable.

Step 13

Be careful when handling the battery.

  • Apply alcohol and use a Green Plastic Spudger to pry the battery slightly.
  • Use a Suction Cup on the battery and lift it out.
  • The battery should come out undamaged if done correctly.

Step 14

Reassemble the new frame screen, making sure to place the Vibrator, Frame Flex Cables, and Charge Port in their designated positions.

  • Charge Port goes in first at the bottom of the assembly.
  • Next, attach the Microphone Board to the top of the Charge Port.
  • Connect the Frame Flex Cables according to their corresponding connections.
  • Secure everything in place using three Black PH000 Screws.

Place the main board into the new frame.

  • Ensure the board is seated securely within its designated area.
  • Next, carefully insert the front camera module.

Apply adhesive to the surface where the battery will be mounted.

  • Install the battery by connecting its connectors first, then placing it on the adhesive.
  • Disconnect the battery from the system.
  • Latch any loose flex cables to their respective connectors.

Secure screw brackets and attach wireless charge pad to test the phone's functionality before final assembly.

  • Apply adhesive to the back of the phone and reattach the back glass.
  • If replacing the back glass, relocate the microphone from the old glass to its new position, along with the rear camera lens.

Step 18

Apply liquid adhesive to secure the back glass in place.

  • Allow the adhesive to cure for at least 2-3 hours.
  • Clamp the back panel securely during this time.

Repair complete.

  • No replacement of the back glass was necessary.

For back glass removal, use acetone and a blade to scrape off the paint.

  • Apply acetone to loosen the paint.
  • Use a blade to gently pry away the paint.
