Discharge the battery to below 25% before starting work to prevent thermal events and damage.

  • Ensure the battery is not swollen: follow proper safety procedures if necessary.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Step 1 image

Power off your phone completely before disassembly.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the phone and avoid damaging the screen and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Use clear packing tape to cover a badly cracked back glass for better suction.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape instead of the suction cup or superglue it in place.

Hold the suction cup firmly and pull up with strong force to create a gap between the rear cover and frame.

Do not insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone, as this may damage internal components.

  • If you encounter resistance, reapply heat and try again, or use additional packing tape for better grip.

Step 3 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the top right corner of the device and gently slide it along the left edge towards the bottom left corner.

  • Continue sliding the pick until it cuts through the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick inserted in the bottom left corner to prevent re-sealing.

Step 4 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Do not insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone.

  • Repeat the process of heating and cutting the adhesive along the remaining sides of the rear cover.
  • Insert new opening picks in the gaps created by previous ones, leaving a pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing.
  • Slide an opening pick around the perimeter to release any missed adhesive. Reheat stubborn areas as needed.

Careful not to damage socket or surrounding components when prying up wireless charging coil press connector.

  • Pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector using a spudger, taking care to pry only under the edge.
  • To re-attach: align carefully and press down on one side until it clicks, then repeat on other side; avoid pressing middle.
  • Risk of pin bending and permanent damage if connector is misaligned.

Step 7 | Disconnect the white press connector

Threadlocker may make screws more difficult to remove.

  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six 4.0 mm motherboard shield screws.
  • Keep track of each removed screw and replace it in its original location.
