Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole on the top edge of the phone.

  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

If you insert the tool into a microphone hole, do not worry; damage is unlikely.

Step 2 | Heat the rear cover

Step 2 image

Power down your phone completely before starting disassembly.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be careful not to overheat and damage the screen or internal battery.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, near the edge.

  • If the back glass is badly cracked, apply clear packing tape for better suction.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape instead of the suction cup or superglue it in place if necessary.

Be careful not to insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone, as this can damage internal components.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong force to create a gap between the rear cover and frame.
  • Apply more heat if needed and try again for difficult cases.

Insert an opening pick into the gap created by the suction cup.

Step 4 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the top right corner of the device.

  • Slide it along the left edge towards the bottom left corner, cutting through the adhesive as you go.
  • Leave the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent the adhesive from re-sealing.

Step 5 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Step 5 image

Do not insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone or you risk damaging internal components.

  • Repeat heating and cutting process for the remaining three sides of the rear cover.
  • Insert each new opening pick in the gaps created by existing picks in the corners.

Leave an opening pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing of adhesive as you proceed.

  • Slide an opening pick around the perimeter to release any missed adhesive.
  • Reheat stubborn adhesive if necessary.
