Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra Motherboard Replacement

Always discharge the battery to below 25% before disassembly to prevent thermal events and damage.

  • Battery check: If the battery is swollen, exercise caution and follow proper disposal procedures.
  • Preparation: Ensure the battery level is below 25% before starting the repair.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM card tray

Avoid inserting tools or objects into the wrong holes on your phone.

  • Insert a SIM eject tool, bit, or straightened paper clip into the SIM card tray hole.
  • Press firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the SIM card tray.

If you insert the tool into a microphone hole by mistake, it is unlikely to cause damage and can be removed without issue.

Step 2 | Heat the rear cover

Step 2 image

Completely power off your phone before disassembling it.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • (Alternatively), use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but be cautious not to overheat the device, as it can damage the screen and internal battery.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Step 3 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

If your back glass is badly cracked, covering it with clear packing tape may be necessary for adhesion.

  • Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear cover and frame.
  • Apply more heat if having trouble; this may vary depending on phone age.

Insert an opening pick into the gap, but no more than 5 mm deep to avoid damaging internal components.

Step 4 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Step 4 image

Thumbnail 3
  • Slide a pick along the left edge to the bottom left corner, cutting the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place at the bottom left corner to prevent re-sealing.

Step 5 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Step 5 image

Thumbnail 3

Do not insert the opening pick more than 5 mm into the phone, risk of internal component damage.

  • Repeat heating and cutting process for three remaining sides of rear cover.
  • Insert new opening picks in gaps between existing corner picks.

Leave an opening pick in each corner to prevent re-sealing adhesive.

  • Slide an opening pick around perimeter to release missed adhesive.
  • Reheat stubborn adhesive as needed.

Step 6 | Remove the rear cover

Step 6 image

Remove the rear cover by lifting it straight up.

Step 7 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 7 image

Thumbnail 2

To avoid damaging surrounding components, only pry under the edge of the wireless charging coil press connector.

  • Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector.

When re-attaching, do not press down on the middle — instead, align and click one side into place, then repeat on the other side. Misaligned connectors can cause permanent damage by bending the pins.

Step 8 | Disconnect the white press connector

Step 8 image

Locate the white press connector at the bottom right of the motherboard shield.

  • Insert the pointed end of a spudger into the connector and gently pry it up.
  • Once loose, carefully disconnect the white press connector.

Step 9 | Remove the motherboard shield screws

Step 9 image

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six 4.0 mm screws securing the motherboard shield.

Screws may be difficult to remove due to threadlocker, which can cause them to stick.

  • Label and keep track of each removed screw for easy reinstallation.
  • Ensure each screw returns to its original location for proper device function.

Step 10 | Remove the wireless charging coil

Step 10 image

The motherboard shield has thin, sharp edges — handle with care.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to lift up the motherboard shield.
  • Grip the motherboard shield carefully with your fingers.

Careful not to touch any electrical components while prying.

  • Insert the pointed end of a spudger into the battery press connector.
  • Pry upwards gently to release the battery and safely disconnect it from the circuit.

Step 13 | Disconnect the laser AF sensor
