Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra Battery Replacement

Discharge the battery to below 25% to prevent thermal damage and ensure your safety.

  • Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra requires a low battery level for safe repair.
  • If the battery is swollen, take extra precautions before proceeding.

Step 1 | Heat the rear cover

Step 1 image

Power off your phone completely before disassembling.

  • Apply an iOpener to the left side of the rear cover for one minute.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but exercise caution to avoid overheating and damaging the screen or internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Step 2 image

Thumbnail 3

Apply a suction cup to the heated edge of the rear cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • If your back glass is badly cracked, covering it with clear packing tape may help the suction cup adhere.
  • Alternatively, use strong tape instead of the suction cup or superglue it to the broken panel if necessary.

Pull up on the suction cup with strong, steady force to create a gap between the rear cover and frame.

Depending on your phone's age, this may be difficult; apply more heat and try again if needed.

  • Insert an opening pick into the gap, but do not insert it more than 5 mm to avoid damaging internal components.

Step 3 | Begin to cut the adhesive

Step 3 image

Insert a credit card or similar tool into the device near the top and gently work it down the left side, stopping at the bottom left corner.

  • Leave the pick in place to keep the adhesive separated, preventing re-sealing.

Step 4 | Cut along the perimeter of the rear cover

Step 4 image

Insert opening pick no more than 5 mm into phone to avoid damaging internal components.

  • Heat and cut adhesive along three remaining sides of rear cover, repeating process as needed.
  • In each corner, insert new opening pick in gap created by previous pick and leave one pick per corner.
  • Slide an opening pick around entire perimeter to release any missed adhesive, reheating stubborn areas as necessary.

Step 5 | Remove the rear cover

Remove rear cover by lifting it straight up.

Step 6 | Disconnect the wireless charging coil

Step 6 image

Careful: prying under the edge only prevents socket damage.

  • Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the wireless charging coil press connector, applying pressure only along its edges.
  • When re-attaching, align carefully and press down on one side until it clicks, then repeat on the other. Avoid pressing the middle.

Misaligned connectors can cause pin bend and permanent damage.

Step 7 | Disconnect the white press connector

Step 7 image

Use the pointed end of a spudger to carefully pry up the white press connector at the bottom right of the motherboard shield.

Step 8 | Remove the motherboard shield screws

Step 8 image

Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the six 4.0 mm screws securing the motherboard shield.

These screws may be difficult to remove if threadlocker has been applied, so proceed with caution.

  • Label each removed screw for correct reassembly later.
  • Keep track of the location of each screw to ensure it is replaced in its original position.

Step 9 | Remove the wireless charging coil

This will help you disconnect the battery safely and avoid any potential risks.

Step 12 | Remove the loudspeaker screws

Step 12 image

Remove the five 4.0 mm screws holding the loudspeaker in place using a Phillips screwdriver.

Step 13 | Loosen the loudspeaker

Step 13 image

Locate the triangle marking on the right side of the loudspeaker.

  • Insert the pointed end of a spudger into this hole.
  • Pry up and detach the loudspeaker using the spudger.

Be careful not to damage the clips holding the speaker in place.

Step 15 | Remove the loudspeaker

Excessive bending of ribbon cables can cause damage.

  • Flip the secondary interconnect cable away from the battery.
  • Maintain a safe distance to access the battery, as it is still connected by a ribbon cable.

Step 22

Bend the display cable back to gain access to the battery.

  • Bend the main interconnect cable out of the way.

Step 23 | Apply isopropyl alcohol

Step 23 image

Thumbnail 2

Excessive use of high-concentration isopropyl alcohol can damage the display.

  • Apply 1-2 drops of strong (90% or higher) isopropyl alcohol to each corner gap in the battery.
  • Allow 2 minutes for the adhesive underneath the battery to weaken from the isopropyl alcohol.

Step 24 | Remove the battery

Step 24 image

Attach a suction cup to the center of the battery.

Step 25

Step 25 image

Thumbnail 2

Apply steady force with the suction cup to create a gap between the battery and frame.

Beware of bending the battery, which may cause chemical leaks or thermal events.

  • Check for separation; if not, apply more isopropyl alcohol and wait two minutes before retrying.
  • Multiply this process as necessary due to the strong adhesive underneath the battery.

Step 26

Step 26 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert the point of an opening pick into the gap between the battery's bottom edge and the frame.

  • Pry under the battery to cut through the adhesive and detach it from the frame.
  • Avoid inserting the pick more than halfway to prevent damage to the fingerprint sensor underneath.
  • Never deform or puncture the battery with your pry tool, as this can cause injury or a fire hazard.

  • If necessary, apply additional drops of alcohol to further loosen the adhesive before attempting removal.

Step 27

Step 27 image

Remove the battery by pulling up on the suction cup.

Ensure the isopropyl alcohol has penetrated the battery adhesive before removal.

Wipe off or allow any remaining alcohol solution to air dry before installing a new battery.

  • Remove old adhesive and apply stretch release adhesive strips, double sided adhesive tape, or pre-cut adhesive during reassembly.
  • Do not reuse a removed battery as it poses a safety hazard.
