Samsung Galaxy Note II Motherboard Replacement

The purpose of this repair guide is to assist with replacing the motherboard.

Step 1 | Stylus

Remove the stylus by grasping its end and pulling it out of the midframe.

Step 2 | Rear Case

Use a plastic opening tool, or carefully press with your fingertip, into the divot located to the left of the rear-facing camera, just above the power button.

Lift the rear case at the edge closest to the divot, then remove it from the phone.

Step 4 | MicroSD Card

Insert an SD card? Remove it now.

  • Pick up a spudger's flat end or your fingernail and gently press the microSD card deeper into its slot until you hear a click.
  • Release the card; it will eject from the slot.
  • Remove the microSD card.

Reassembly: push the microSD card in until it clicks.

Step 5 | Battery

  • Insert the plastic opening tool or your finger into the battery compartment notch.
  • Lift the battery upward.

Remove battery from midframe.

Step 7 | Midframe

Remove the eleven 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws holding the midframe to the display assembly.

Insert plastic opening tool between midframe and front panel assembly, located on side of phone.

  • Slide tool down along seam.

Step 9

Run the plastic opening tool along the entire seam.

Step 10

Careful of sharp edges — use a plastic opening tool to gently pry around the corner.

Step 11

Careful not to damage casing — use a plastic opening tool to pry along the top of the device.

Insert the plastic opening tool and push down on it to release the midframe's corner from the display assembly.

  • Release the clips near the power button.
  • Also release the clips at the battery compartment's top and bottom edges.

Remove the display assembly from the midframe.

Step 15 | Motherboard Assembly

  • Use a spudger to release the vibrator/power button assembly cable connector.
  • Disconnect the antenna cable connector.
  • Release the display cable connector.

Remove the cable connectors:

  • Front-facing camera cable
  • Headphone jack cable
  • Digitizer cable

  • Use a spudger to detach the antenna cable connector from the motherboard.
  • Release the soft button cable connector from its socket.
  • Remove the USB board cable connector from its terminal.

Step 18

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the motherboard to the display assembly.

Remove the motherboard gently.

Hold the motherboard by its edges to prevent ESD damage and avoid snags on cables.

Step 20 | Rear Facing Camera Assembly

Disconnect the rear-facing camera assembly cable using a spudger.

Step 21

Remove the rear-facing camera assembly using either tweezers or your fingers.
