Samsung Galaxy Note II Display Assembly Replacement

  • Replace the front panel display assembly in your Samsung Galaxy Note II using this guide.

Step 1 | Stylus

Grasp the stylus at one end.

  • Remove it from its slot in the midframe.

Step 2 | Rear Case

Use a plastic opening tool or your fingertip to pry in the area below and to the left of the rear-facing camera, just above the power button.

Support the rear case with your finger, then lift it by the corner nearest the divot.

  • Gently pry the rear case off the phone.

Step 4 | MicroSD Card

Use the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail to press the microSD card deeper into its slot and hear a click.

  • Release the card for it to pop out of the slot.
  • Remove the microSD card from the device.
  • For reassembly, push the microSD card into the slot until it clicks in place.

Step 5 | Battery

Insert plastic opening tool or your finger into the notch of the battery compartment.

Lift the battery upward.

Disconnect and remove the battery from the midframe.

Step 7 | Midframe

Remove eleven 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws securing the midframe to the display assembly.

  • Insert a plastic opening tool between the midframe and front panel assembly.
  • Slide the tool down the seam on the side of the phone.

Continue running the plastic opening tool along the seam.

Use a plastic opening tool to carefully pry around the corner.

Use a plastic opening tool to pry along the top of the phone.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the gap and push it downwards to release the midframe at one corner.

  • Release the clips located on the power button side.
  • Remove the two clips at the top and bottom edges of the battery compartment.

Use your hands to carefully lift the display assembly out of its mount in the midframe.

Step 15 | Motherboard Assembly

  • Use a spudger to disconnect the vibrator/power button assembly cable connector.
  • Remove the antenna cable connector.
  • Disconnect the display cable connector.

  • Remove the front-facing camera cable by disconnecting its connector.
  • Separate the headphone jack cable from its connector.
  • Disconnect the digitizer cable at its connector.

Disconnect the antenna cable from the motherboard using a spudger.

  • Remove the soft button cable from its socket.
  • Disconnect the USB board cable from the board.

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw securing the motherboard to the display assembly.

Hold the motherboard carefully by its edges to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.

  • Remove the motherboard from the display assembly, avoiding cables as you pull it out.

Step 20 | Headphone Jack/Earpiece Speaker Assembly

Remove the 3mm Phillips #00 screw holding the headphone jack assembly in place.

Grasp the headphone jack and lift it out of its groove.

Avoid twisting or uneven pulling, which may damage the cable.

  • Pull the headphone jack straight up to remove the earpiece speaker portion from its recess.
  • Be cautious when extracting the assembly as damage can occur with excessive force or uneven motion.

Step 23 | Display Assembly

Remove the 3mm Phillips #00 screw from the front-facing camera bracket.

Remove the front-facing camera bracket.

Locate and gently disconnect the front-facing camera cable.

Remove the front-facing camera module from its housing.

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw holding the antenna board to the display assembly.

  • Spudger: Insert the tip under the antenna board.
  • Gently pry loose the adhesive, freeing the antenna board from the display assembly.

De-route the antenna cable gently from its channel in the display assembly.

Disconnect the antenna cable from the display assembly.

  • When reassembling, install the USB board first.
  • Then, attach the antenna connector and route it into its designated channel.

Do not remove the vibrator entirely, as it remains connected to the vibrator/power button assembly.

  • Use a spudger to carefully pry the vibrator away from the display assembly.

Use tweezers to release the power button from its adhesive on the display assembly.

  • Detach the vibrator/power button assembly from the display assembly.

Remove the 3 mm Phillips #00 screw from the speaker enclosure.

Remove the speaker enclosure.

Disconnect the antenna cable connector from the USB board using the flat end of a spudger.

  • Insert the spudger at a shallow angle under the USB board.

  • Be careful not to bend or damage the USB board.

  • Push the spudger to separate the USB board from the display assembly.

  • Remove the USB board from the display assembly.

Deroute the antenna cable from its notch in the display assembly.

  • Gently pull the antenna cable away from the display assembly.
  • Remove the antenna cable.
