How to replace Samsung Galaxy Note 5 motherboard

This guide does not cover complete disassembly of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

  • The author, TechMD, only partially disassembles to access the motherboard.

Step 1 | Power off the Galaxy Note 5 and remove the S Pen.

Power off the Galaxy Note 5.

  • Remove the S Pen.

Step 2 | Remove the Galaxy Note 5 battery door.

Run a hair dryer or heat gun along the edges of Note 5 to loosen the adhesive.

  • Gently pry up with a flat tool to release the battery cover.
  • Be patient, as the adhesive is strong and may require extra effort to separate.

Step 3 | Release the Galaxy Note 5 rear housing.

Undo all 20 screws in the rear housing.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • Pry up the wireless charging chip, taking care not to damage the fragile flex ribbon.
  • Insert a case opening tool into the gap between rear housing and LCD assembly to release the rear housing.

Step 4 | Release the Galaxy Note 5 motherboard.

Locate the LCD and digitizer flex connectors.

  • Pry them up using a plastic spudger or similar tool.

Take care not to damage the flex connectors — risk of costly repairs.

  • Disconnect the battery flex connector.
  • Release the proximity sensor flex connector by prying it up.

Now move on to the charging port and RF signal cables:

  • Pry up the charging port flex connector.
  • Disconnect the RF signal cable connectors.
  • Release a connector underneath as shown in the picture — this will free the motherboard.

Step 5 | Remove the front and rear facing cameras.

Disconnect front-facing camera connector, then disconnect rear-facing camera connector
