Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Motherboard Replacement

This is a repair guide for replacing the motherboard in a Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Insert a plastic spudger into the divot to the left of the rear-facing camera.

  • Gently pry the flexible rear cover away from the phone's back.
  • Twist and lift the cover off the back of the phone.

Step 2 | Battery

Lift the battery by prying it up from its recess using a fingernail or plastic opening tool.

  • Release the battery from its holder.
  • Remove the battery completely.

Step 3 | SIM Card

Pull the SIM card out of its housing by first gently pushing it forward.

  • Push the SIM card forward until it is partially exposed from its housing.
  • Continue pulling the SIM card out the rest of the way.

Step 4 | Midframe

  • Remove the sixteen 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws holding the midframe to the display.
  • Grasp the S Pen cap and lift it from its slot in the midframe.

Insert a plastic opening tool between midframe and display assembly.

  • Work the tool around perimeter to break adhesive.
  • No heat gun required due to weak adhesive.
  • Be careful not to separate front glass panel from rest of display assembly.

Step 6

Use a plastic opening tool to release the clasps securing the battery housing.

Push on battery housing to separate midframe from display assembly.

A reasonable amount of pressure may be required for separation.

  • Transfer headphone jack assembly if new midframe does not include one.
  • Pry loose old headphone jack with a plastic opening tool, removing several plastic pins in the process.

Step 8 | Motherboard

Remove the two 2.9 mm Phillips #00 screws.

Remove the tweezers and use them to grasp the two antenna cables.

  • Carefully pull out both antenna cables

Step 10

Disconnect the ribbon cable connectors using a pair of tweezers or the flat end of a spudger.

Step 11

Remove the motherboard from the phone.

Be careful not to damage any components during removal.
