Samsung Galaxy Nexus Power Button Replacement

Since my power button stopped working and the device is out of warranty, I've replaced it myself.

  • I hope this guide helps you do the same if your power button fails.

Step 1 | Power Button

Step 1 image

Replace malfunctioning power button with:

  • A replacement power flex cable
  • A small Phillips head screwdriver
  • A plastic opening tool
  • (Optional) A tweezer

Note: A scalpel is not essential but may be helpful in tight spaces.

Use a scalpel to carefully remove glued on volume- and power button flex cables without cutting the cable itself.

  • Use the scalpel to pry out the vibrator.
  • A spudger is a more suitable tool for this step, but a scalpel may be used as an alternative if one is not available.

Ensure the motherboard clears any cables as you remove it.

  • Replace the front-facing camera if desired.
  • The back-facing camera can also be replaced at this time.

We will not be addressing these components in this guide, focus on replacing the malfunctioning power button instead.

Be careful when opening the latch, as prying at the wrong part may cause no harm but waste time.

  • Open the black latch with your opening tool.
  • Use tweezers to carefully remove and replace the power button flex cable.
  • Reclose the latch in its original position once the replacement is complete.

Step 8

Reconnect the connectors, cable, and vibrator to the motherboard and housing using your fingers.

  • You should hear a snap when attaching each connector securely.
  • When reconnecting the coaxial cable, use gentle pressure, as it may be difficult to reattach – keep trying if needed.
