Samsung Galaxy M51 Battery Replacement

Do not start this guide until you have discharged the battery below 25% to minimize thermal risks.

  • Battery Discharge Warning: If your current battery is swollen, take precautions to avoid injury.
  • Acquire replacement adhesive for reassembling the device.
  • This guide is intended for replacing a worn-out or dead Galaxy M51 battery.

Step 1 | How to remove the SIM Tray

Insert a SIM eject tool into the small hole on the SIM card tray and press firmly to eject the tray.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • When reinserting, ensure the cards are properly oriented in the tray.

Step 2 | Heat an iOpener

Power off your phone.

  • iOpener: apply for at least two minutes.
  • Alternative methods: use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate; be cautious not to overheat, as this may cause damage to the display and internal battery.

Step 3 | Create an opening gap

Apply a suction handle to the back cover near the USB-C port.

  • Lift the back cover's lower edge using your suction handle, creating a small gap between the cover and frame.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap you've created.
  • Slide the pick to the bottom left corner and secure it there.

Step 4 | Slice through the adhesive

  • Insert a second opening pick at the bottom left corner.
  • Slide it to the bottom right corner, cutting the adhesive.
  • Do not remove the opening picks as this will allow the adhesive to reseal.

Insert a third opening pick under the bottom right corner of the back cover.

  • Apply more heat if necessary to soften the adhesive further.
  • Refer to iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Slide it along the right edge of the phone to the top right corner, cutting the adhesive.

  • Leave the opening pick in place at the top right corner to prevent resealing.

Insert the fourth opening pick under the top right corner.

  • Slide it towards the left corner along the top edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 7

Insert a fifth opening pick in the top-left corner.

Slide it carefully along the edge to avoid damaging nearby components.

  • Cut through any remaining adhesive using this new pick.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

Step 9 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Use the pointed tip of a spudger to carefully pry the fingerprint sensor connector away from the motherboard.

Step 10 | Remove the screws

Remove midframe screws. There are 15 of them, each 4.0 mm long and requiring a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

Step 11 | Release the plastic clips

Locate the plastic clips holding the midframe.

  • Insert an opening pick between the midframe and display near the USB-C port.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to release the plastic clips.

Insert an opening pick at the device's right edge and slide it along to release the plastic clips.

Slide the opening pick along the top edge to disengage the midframe from its plastic clips.

Slide picking tool along the left edge to disengage plastic clips.

Step 15 | Remove the midframe

Remove the midframe.

Step 16 | Battery Disconnect

Disconnect the battery using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 17 | Disconnect the interconnect flex cable

Disconnect the interconnect flex cable from the motherboard using a flat-ended spudger.

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully disconnect the interconnect cable from the daughterboard.

Step 19 | Heat an iOpener

Apply a iOpener for 2-3 minutes to the screen to loosen the adhesive underneath.

  • You may need to repeat this process several times during the battery replacement.
  • If removing the battery is difficult, apply high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to the edges of the battery and try again.

Step 20 | Slice the adhesive

Deformations can cause lithium-ion batteries to leak dangerous chemicals, catch fire, or even explode.

  • Use a plastic card and minimal force to prevent damage.
  • Insert the plastic card under the battery's bottom edge.
  • Slice through all adhesive until you can pry it up carefully.

Step 21 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery as it poses a potential safety hazard.

  • Scrape off any remaining adhesive with your fingers.
  • Clean glued areas with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.
