Samsung Galaxy M31 Battery Replacement

Discharge the battery below 25% to prevent a thermal event during disassembly.

  • Carefully replace the swollen battery if necessary, taking appropriate precautions.
  • Prepare replacement adhesive for reattaching components during reassembly.

Step 1 | Remove SIM Card Tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit, or a straightened paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray located at the left side of the phone.

  • Press firmly to avoid damaging the SIM tray.

  • The tray should eject with a slight click or snap sound.

Locate the bottom edge of the phone.

  • Insert an opening pick between the phone assembly and the back cover.
  • Slide the opening pick around the bottom right corner to release the clips.

Insert a second opening pick between the back cover and phone assembly at the bottom edge.

  • Slide the pick around the bottom left corner to release the plastic clips.

Insert an opening pick into the gap between the phone's frame and the back cover.

  • Gently slide the opening pick along the left edge of the phone to release the plastic clips on the left side of the back cover.

  • Hold the opening pick at a shallow angle and slide it along the right edge of the phone.
  • This will release the plastic clips holding the back cover in place on the right side.

Step 6 | Remove Back Cover

The flex cable for the fingerprint sensor is prone to disconnect during removal.

  • Slowly lift the phone assembly out of the back cover.
  • Reassemble by powering on the phone and testing functions before reinstalling the back cover.
  • Prior to continuing, ensure the phone is powered down completely.

Step 7 | Unfasten Motherboard Cover

Remove 7 Phillips #00 screws, 3.9mm in length.

Step 8 | Remove Motherboard Cover

Insert the opening pick under the top edge of the motherboard cover.

  • Pry up the motherboard cover using the opening pick.
  • Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 9 | Battery Disconnect

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up and loosen the battery flex cable

  • Once loose, carefully pull the connector away from its socket.

Step 10 | Display Cable Disconnect

Insert the flat end of a spudger under the display flex cable.

  • Pry the cable up gently but firmly until it is fully disconnected.

Step 11 | Interconnect Cable Disconnect

Insert the flat end of a spudger under the interconnect flex cable to pry it loose.

  • Fold both cables down towards the bottom edge of the phone for easier access to the battery.

Step 12 | Soften Battery Adhesive

Apply iOpener to screen and heat for 2+ minutes.

  • Apply even heat to loosen adhesive under battery.

Step 13 | Pry up the Battery

Avoid damaging the battery, as it may leak chemicals, catch fire, or explode.

  • Insert a spudger between the daughterboard cover and battery at the bottom left corner.
  • Pry up the battery carefully until a small gap forms underneath.
  • Slide a plastic card into this new gap to further release the battery.

Step 14 | Cut Battery Adhesive

  • Insert a plastic card under the battery, using it to cut any remaining adhesive.
  • Pry the battery loose with the plastic card.

Step 15 | Remove Battery

Remove the battery.

Never reinstall a damaged or deformed battery — potential safety hazard.

  • Temporarily reconnect battery to aid in alignment.
  • Adhere battery to phone and then disconnect.
  • Continue reassembling your phone, leaving the battery disconnected.
