Samsung Galaxy M31 Back Cover & Fingerprint Sensor Replacement

This repair requires a Samsung Galaxy M31 and replacement adhesive for the fingerprint sensor.

  • Follow this guide to remove the back cover.
  • Also, you will need replacement adhesive to reattach the fingerprint sensor.

Step 1 | Remove SIM Card Tray

Insert SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit or straightened paper clip into SIM tray hole.

  • Press firmly to eject tray.

Insert an opening pick between the phone assembly and the back cover at the bottom edge.

  • Slide the pick around the bottom right corner to release the clips.

Insert a second opening pick at the bottom edge of the phone, between the back cover and the phone assembly.

  • Slide the pick around the bottom left corner to release the plastic clips.

Slide the opening pick along the left side of the phone.

Release will occur when you reach the plastic clips on the left side of the back cover.

  • Insert an opening pick at the right edge of the phone.
  • Guide the pick along the right side, releasing the plastic clips.

Step 6 | Remove Back Cover

The fingerprint sensor flex cable is short and may disconnect during removal; remove the back cover slowly to avoid damaging it.

  • Lift the phone assembly out of the back cover carefully.

Power on your phone and test all functions before reinstalling the back cover, then power down completely before continuing work.

Step 7 | Soften Fingerprint Adhesive

Heat an iOpener and apply it to the back of the phone near the fingerprint sensor for at least two minutes.

  • The heat will help loosen the adhesive underneath.

Insert an opening pick at the edge of the fingerprint reader

  • Guide the pick along the edge, cutting adhesive as you go.
  • Sweep the pick around the entire edge of the fingerprint reader.

Step 9 | Remove Fingerprint Sensor

Disconnect the fingerprint reader cable.

  • Use a pair of tweezers to carefully lift out the fingerprint reader sensor.
  • Remove the mounting screws holding it in place.
