Samsung Galaxy M31 AMOLED Screen & Digitizer Replacement

This repair involves replacing a cracked or broken screen on your Samsung Galaxy M31.

  • Verify that you have the correct screen, as some come pre-installed in a new frame (a.k.a. chassis).
  • Discharge the battery below 25% to minimize risk of damage from accidental puncture.

If your phone's frame is deformed, consider replacing it to ensure proper screen mounting and prevent uneven pressure damage.

You'll need replacement adhesive for reassembly.

The flex cable of the fingerprint sensor is prone to disconnection.

  • Lift the phone assembly out of the back cover carefully, avoiding sudden movements that may damage the flex cable.

Before reassembling, power on your phone and test all functions with the back cover removed.

  • Power down your phone completely before continuing work.

Step 7 | Unfasten Motherboard Cover

Remove seven Phillips #00 screws with a length of 3.9 mm.

Use the pointed end of a spudger to pry up the display flex connector from the midframe.

  • If the connector doesn't come off easily, apply a heated iOpener to the bottom end of the screen.
  • This will loosen the mild adhesive holding the connector in place.

Step 15 | Soften Display Adhesive

Step 15 image

Apply a iOpener to the screen and heat it for at least 2 minutes to loosen the adhesive.

  • The iOpener should be heated until warm, not hot.

Step 16 | Separate the Bottom Edge Adhesive

Warm up the screen by using the phone.

  • Suction handle may not stick on cracked screens — use strong tape or superglue with caution.
  • Apply suction handle to bottom edge of phone and lift screen slowly, creating a small gap between screen and frame.
  • Insert opening pick into gap between midframe and screen at the top, then slide it down towards bottom right corner to cut adhesive.

Remove opening pick carefully before reassembling — excess adhesive may cause issues.

  • Insert another opening pick into the opposite side of the screen.
  • Slide the new pick to the bottom left corner and use it to sever the remaining adhesive.
  • Leave both picks in place to prevent re-adhesion.

Re-heat the iOpener and reapply if cutting is too difficult.

  • Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the phone.
  • Slide it up to the top left corner to cut the adhesive, then leave it in place to prevent resealing.

Step 19 | Separate the Top Edge Adhesive

Step 19 image

Insert a fourth opening pick at the top left corner.

  • As you near the front facing camera, use only the tip of the pick to avoid damage or smearing.
  • The speaker grill above the camera may fall off easily; handle with care to avoid losing it.

Slide the opening pick along the top edge to cut the adhesive. Leave the pick in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 20 | Separate the Right Edge Adhesive

Step 20 image

Thumbnail 2

Insert a fifth opening pick and slide it along the right edge of the phone.

Try not to remove the display all the way yet, as it is still held onto the midframe by adhesive beneath its center.

  • Leave the opening picks in their place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 21 | Soften Display Adhesive

Step 21 image

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the screen's center.

  • Allow the iOpener to heat for at least two minutes before proceeding.

Step 22

Slide a plastic card under the right edge of the screen.

  • Use the plastic card to cut the adhesive beneath the center of the screen by sliding it to the bottom edge.
  • Be careful not to remove the display completely, as the cable is still threaded through the frame and may be stuck on the inner side of the midframe.

Step 23 | Thread Display Cable through Midframe

Step 23 image

Thumbnail 3

Locate the midframe's gap for the display flex cable.

  • Thread the display flex cable through the identified gap.
  • Ensure proper alignment to avoid damage.
  • Remove the display after securing the cable.

Step 24 | Remove Display

Step 24 image

Compare your new replacement part with the original part, noting any differences in remaining components or adhesive backings that may require removal or reattachment.

  • Transfer any retained components from the old part to the new part.
  • Remove adhesive backing strips if present on the new part.
