Samsung Galaxy Light Digitizer Replacement

The Samsung Galaxy Light (SGH-T399) can be disassembled with relative ease compared to other Galaxy phones. The digitizer and screen are separate components, allowing for replacement of one without affecting the other.

Step 1 | Remove Back Cover

Turn off the Samsung Galaxy Light completely.

  • Use a plastic opening tool or your fingernails to gently pry up the back cover.
  • The back cover should now be removable.

Step 2 | Remove Battery

Disconnect the battery from the device.

Step 3 | Unscrew Midframe

Remove the 9 Phillips #0 screws using a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

Step 4 | Remove Midframe

  • Separate the midframe from the front panel using a plastic opening tool.
  • Remove the midframe.

Step 5 | Detach Motherboard

Detach the digitizer connector using a plastic opening tool.

  • Lift the motherboard up and move it toward the left side.
  • Pry up the display connector on the back side of the motherboard.

Step 6 | Remove the Audio/Vibrator Assembly

Remove the headphone jack/earpiece/vibrator assembly using a plastic opening tool.

Be cautious of the thin ribbon cables, which may tear easily.

Step 7 | Remove the Audio/Vibrator Assembly Support

Remove the support piece using a plastic opening tool.

Step 8 | Disconnect and Remove the Digitizer Connector

Release the latch using a plastic opening tool, allowing it to swing up towards the cable.

Slide the digitizer connector free from its socket.

Be extremely cautious when loosening the cable from the back, as damage to the digitizer's cable is a high risk.

  • Apply gentle heat to loosen the adhesive bonding the metal plate to the back.
  • Pry between the metal plate and the back using a metal tool.

Step 9 | Remove the Digitizer

Be extremely cautious when separating the digitizer near the highlighted area in red, as damage to the cable may occur.

  • Apply even heat and use plastic opening tools to release the top edge of the digitizer from the frame.
  • Continue applying heat to the sides and separate the digitizer from the frame using the same tools.

Do not push the tool too far inside, as this may damage the screen or apply adhesive residue.

  • The two touch-sensitive buttons on either side of the home button do not have cables attached to them.
  • Once all sides are separated, remove the digitizer from the frame using a gentle pulling motion.

Step 10 | Reinserting the Digitizer

Remove all glass shards from the frame.

  • Inspect the frame for cracked digitizer fragments.
  • Affix new digitizer to frame; otherwise, it may not function properly.
