Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge Home Button and Audio Jack Replacement

Distorted audio or an unresponsive Home Button may require replacement of either part.

  • Audion Jack: Check for distortion when used.
  • Home Button: Verify responsiveness.

Step 1 | Screen

Careful: heat may damage sensitive components.

  • Apply gentle heat to the screen edges using a hair dryer.
  • Insert the iFixit Opening Tool between screen and body to loosen the edge of the screen.
  • Work the tool around the entire screen to break the adhesive.

Risk of screen damage, proceed with caution.

  • Lift the screen up from the bottom.
  • Be careful not to touch the screen's fragile edges.
  • Pry the gray cover open using a thin tool.

Use a iFixit opening tool or a clean nail to pry the connector off the motherboard.

Step 4 | Motherboard

Remove the eleven Phillips #00 3.5mm screws

  • If a screw gets stuck, use adhesive tape to assist removal.
  • Place the adhesive side of the tape on the screw and pull off the tape.

Turn the phone over and apply pressure to the area where the battery used to reside.

A loud clicking noise is normal during this process, but proceed with caution as excessive force may cause damage.

  • Insert the iFixit Opening Pick between the motherboard and the panel.
  • Guide the iFixit Opening Pick along the edges of the motherboard.

Use your hand to pry the motherboard away from the phone.

Step 8 | Home Button and Audio Jack

Slide the home button to the left to release it.

Step 9

Use the iFixit Opening Pick to remove the connector where the home button is located.

Step 10

Follow the ribbon to guide the connector through the motherboard.

  • Lift the connector upwards.
  • Push it gently through the motherboard until it is seated securely.

Use an iFixit Opening Pick to carefully release the audio port.

  • Follow the cable or connector to locate its retaining clip.
  • Gently pop the audio port out of its socket using the iFixit Opening Pick.
