Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge Disassembly

Step 1 | Take the battery out

Remove the back cover using a paddle pry tool.

  • Disconnect the battery connector.
  • Take the battery pack out of the device.

Step 2 | Melting the adhesive

Melt the screen adhesive with a heat gun or hairdryer.

  • Apply gentle pressure with an iFixit opening pick or similar tool to separate the screen.
  • Be cautious not to press too hard and damage the LCD.

Step 3 | Detaching the screen assembly

Carefully lift the phone from the bottom and lean the screen over the top.

  • Pry the tab marked by the red box upwards to expose the connector.
  • The connector is shown in the green box. Use a iFixit opening pick or guitar pick to gently pry it loose from the motherboard.

Step 4 | Unscrewing the back panel

Remove all 11 screws marked by red circles using a #00 Philips head screwdriver.

Do not worry about specific locations, as they are interchangeable.

  • These screws are the only ones in the phone.
  • No other screws need to be removed.

Step 5 | Taking the motherboard out

Apply light pressure to the back of the phone where the battery was until you hear clicking noises.

  • Gently insert your ifixit opening pick (or guitar pick) into the gap and pry around the other side of the phone, being careful not to damage bare circuits.

Step 6 | Taking the headphone jack out

Do not tear the headphone jack from the chassis.

  • Use an iFixit opening pick or a guitar pick to gently pry off the headphone and home button connector.
  • The headphone jack is located inside the phone's chassis, connected to the home button.

Step 7 | Removing the motherboard

Pry the motherboard out slowly and carefully from the micro USB connector, working your way around the edge.

Step 8 | Removing the cameras

Lift the green tape, marked with a red note.

  • Use an iFixit opening pick or a guitar pick to lift up the tabs marked in green.
