Camera damage can compromise image quality, so consider replacing both front and rear cameras if either one is cracked.
- The front camera is located behind the motherboard.
- The rear camera is also situated behind the motherboard.
- To access the cameras, you must first open the motherboard, which requires patience and careful handling.
Step 1 | Screen
Careful, as overheating can damage components.
- Apply heat to the edges of the screen with a hair dryer.
- Insert the iFixit Opening Tool between the screen and body to start separating the edge of the screen.
- Work the iFixit Opening Tools around the entire screen to break the adhesive bond.
Step 2
The screen may crack when lifting it up.
- Lift the screen up from the bottom.
- Pry the gray cover open.
Step 3
Use a iFixit opening tool or a clean nail to pry the connector off the motherboard.
Step 4 | Motherboard
Remove the eleven Phillips #00 3.5mm screws.
If stuck, try using adhesive tape: apply to screw and pull off.
Step 5
Flip the phone over and press firmly on the area where the battery used to be.
A loud clicking sound may occur as you apply pressure.
Step 6
- Insert the iFixit Opening Pick between the motherboard and the panel.
- Work the pick around the outside edge of the motherboard.
Step 7
Be careful not to damage the motherboard or surrounding components.
- Pry the motherboard gently away from the phone using your fingers.
Step 8 | Camera
Remove the green protective tape from the connectors.
Step 9
Lift the tabs upwards to expose the ribbons.
Step 10
Separate the camera ribbons from their respective connectors.
