Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Motherboard Replacement

This guide shows how to replace the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime's motherboard when other troubleshooting steps fail and the device remains unfunctional.

No advanced technical knowledge is required for this replacement process.

  • The goal of a successful replacement is proper device boot-up functionality.

Step 1 | Battery

Locate and lift up the blue plastic opening tool tab.

  • Lift the back cover off from this point.
  • Continue around the edge of the back cover to fully remove it.

Step 2 | Remove the battery.

Locate the thumb tab and lift upwards to release the old battery.

To prevent corrosion, periodically clean the brass terminals on the battery and phone using ISO:

  • Apply a minute amount of ISO to a Q-tip.
  • Gently clean the connections.

Step 3 | Midframe

Remove the nine 4mm screws using a Phillips #000 screwdriver

Insert the blue plastic opening tool into the gap between the front and side panels.

  • Pry the blue plastic opening tool along the edges of this joint to release it.

Detach the mid-frame from both the top and bottom interior sections.

Step 6 | Headphone Jack/Speaker Assembly

Remove the audio jack by unclipping the ribbon cable with a plastic opening tool.

Step 7 | Earpiece Speaker

Unhook the ribbon cable clip with the plastic opening tool.

Use tweezers to gently pull the connector.

  • The speaker should come loose.

Step 9 | Motherboard

Use a blue plastic opening tool to unhook the remaining ribbon cable clip attached to the screen.

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the front camera.

  • Lift the motherboard upwards, removing it from the device.

Step 11

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the back camera.

Be careful not to touch any circuitry on the exposed motherboard.

  • Remove the motherboard from its mounting points.
  • Lift and unhook the ribbon cable clip to the back camera, securing it out of the way.
