Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Micro USB Port Replacement

This repair is necessary for a device with a malfunctioning charging port.

Step 1 | Battery

Use a blue plastic opening tool to lift up the back cover tab.

  • Work your way around the edge, prying off the back cover as you go.

Step 2 | Remove the battery.

Use a finger to lift up the thumb tab to remove the old battery.

  • Occasionally clean the brass terminals with a small amount of ISO on a Q-tip.

Be careful not to touch the terminals — risk of short circuit or corrosion.

Step 3 | Midframe

  • Remove the nine 4mm screws from the midframe using a Phillips #000 screwdriver.

Insert the blue plastic opening tool between the front and side panels.

  • Work the blue plastic opening tool around all edges for a proper release.

Also, separate the mid-frame from its internal attachment points.

Step 6 | Headphone Jack/Speaker Assembly

Remove the audio jack by unclipping the ribbon cable using a plastic opening tool.

Step 7 | Earpiece Speaker

Unhook the ribbon cable clip using a plastic opening tool.

Use tweezers to gently grasp and pull the connector.

The speaker should come loose once removed.

Step 9 | Motherboard

Use the blue plastic opening tool to release the other ribbon cable clip.

Remove the ribbon cable clip from the front camera.

  • Lift the motherboard upwards, carefully removing it from the device.

Remove the motherboard.

  • Unhook the ribbon cable clip from the back camera.

Step 12 | Micro USB Port

Soldering irons can reach extremely high temperatures — handle with caution.

  • Use a soldering iron to desolder the charging port.
  • Carefully manage the soldering iron's temperature and handling to avoid burns.
