Samsung Galaxy A72 Battery Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembly to avoid fire risk and damage during repair.

  • Check for swollen battery and take necessary precautions.
  • Remove loudspeaker assembly and interconnect cable for easier battery access, but be aware of higher cable damage risk.

Replace adhesive seals when reassembling to maintain water protection.

You'll need replacement adhesive for component reattachment during reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Do not use excessive heat, as the display and internal battery may be damaged.

  • A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate can also be used for loosening the adhesive.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Attach a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, as close as possible.

If the back cover is cracked, strong tape or superglue may be needed for secure adhesion.

  • Lift the back cover using the suction handle to create a small gap between it and the frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive, but follow iOpener instructions carefully to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the created gap.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

  • Insert another opening pick at the phone's bottom edge.
  • Move this pick towards the bottom left corner, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave all opening picks in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Reheat the iOpener for one to two minutes if the adhesive becomes hard to cut.

  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Step 5

Insert the opening pick under the top left corner.

  • Slide it along the top edge to cut the adhesive.
  • Leave it in the top right corner to keep the seal broken.

Remove the back cover.

  • Clean the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) before proceeding.
  • Apply new adhesive as needed, then reattach the back cover using either pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • Ensure proper adhesion by applying strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing the back cover.

Step 8 | Unfasten the motherboad cover screws

Step 8 image

Remove the motherboard cover by taking out the ten 4.5 mm-long Phillips head screws.

Step 9 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Disconnect and remove the loudspeaker assembly.

  • Clean the area around the assembly using isopropyl alcohol (at least 90% concentration).
  • Apply new adhesive to clean surfaces as needed during reassembly.

Remove the interconnect cable with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.

Step 18 | Loosen the battery adhesive

Step 18 image

Apply a heated iOpener to the screen for at least five minutes to loosen the adhesive.

  • Use an alternative heat source like a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate (heat gun) but be cautious not to overheat the device.
  • Do not apply direct heat to the battery as this poses a safety hazard.

  • If necessary, use high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol and let it penetrate for two to three minutes before prying up the battery.

Step 19 | Pry up the battery

Step 19 image

Insert the opening pick into the wider gap between the midframe and the battery for better leverage.

  • Secure a suction handle to the battery, as close to the edge as possible.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap between the battery edge and frame, using the long edge.

Be careful not to puncture or bend the battery – risk of chemical leak or thermal event.

Apply isopropyl alcohol if struggling to remove the battery.

  • Pull up on the suction handle and tilt the opening pick downwards to pry up the battery.
  • If still struggling, try using a heavy-duty suction cup instead.

Step 20 | Remove the battery

Peel the old battery off the remaining adhesive.

  • Remove the old battery.
  • Do not reinstall a damaged or deformed battery — potential safety hazard.

Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape. Apply the adhesive to the device at the old adhesive locations, not directly on the battery.

  • Press the new battery firmly into place.
  • Temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard for alignment during reassembly.

  • Disconnect the battery after it is seated.
