Samsung Galaxy A72 Back Cover Replacement

Failing to replace adhesive seals during reassembly may compromise water resistance.

  • Follow this guide to replace a damaged back cover.
  • Purchase replacement adhesive for secure reassembly.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the back cover for at least two minutes.

  • This will loosen the adhesive underneath.

Use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate with caution: overheating can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the back cover's bottom edge, as close to the edge as possible.

If the back cover is cracked, the suction handle may not stick: try lifting it with strong tape or superglue the suction handle in place and let it cure.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the cover and frame.
  • In case of trouble, apply more heat to soften the adhesive further; follow iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the created gap.
  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

  • Place a second opening pick at the bottom edge of the phone.
  • Slide the new pick towards the bottom left corner to separate the adhesive.
  • Do not remove the opening picks as this can cause the adhesive to reseal.

If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has likely cooled down.

  • Reheat the adhesive using an iOpener for one to two minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom left corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to slice the adhesive.

Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.

Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing the back cover to ensure a good bond. A stack of heavy books can help.
