Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Fingerprint Sensor Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembly for fire safety and reduce risk of electric shock from damaged battery.

  • Battery Swelling: Take appropriate precautions if your battery is swollen during repair process.
  • Water Protection: Replace adhesive seals when reassembling to maintain device's water protection functionality.
  • Replacement Materials: Obtain replacement adhesive for reattaching components when reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes.

Heat may also be applied using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but do not overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the right edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • If necessary, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap you created.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

  • Slide the opening pick to the top right corner.
  • Use the same opening pick to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the top right edge.

  • Slide it to the bottom right corner, slicing the adhesive.
  • Leave both opening picks in place to prevent resealing.

Adhesive may become hard to cut if it cools down.

  • Reheat the adhesive with an iOpener for one to two minutes.
  • Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
  • Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent resealing.

Insert a fourth opening pick at the bottom left corner.

  • Slide the pick along the left edge to separate the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place at the top left corner to prevent resealing.

  • Insert the fifth opening pick at the top left corner.
  • Pick slide along the top edge, slicing any remaining adhesive on the back cover.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

Apply new adhesive where necessary after thoroughly cleaning relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).

  • Secure the new back cover using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
  • After installing, apply strong and steady pressure to your phone for several minutes. A stack of heavy books can be used for assistance.

Step 9 | Unscrew the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover with a Phillips screwdriver.

  • There are eight screws to remove.
  • Screw length: 3.9 mm.

Step 10 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Insert the flat end of a plastic spudger into the gap between the frame and the motherboard cover on the right edge.

  • Use the spudger to gently pry up the motherboard cover.

Step 11 | Remove the motherboard cover

Remove the motherboard cover.

Step 12 | Disconnect the battery cable

Disconnect the battery cable by carefully prying the connector straight up using a spudger.

Step 13 | Unfasten the loudspeaker screws

Remove the Loudspeaker Assembly Screws using a Phillips Screwdriver.

  • The screws are located on the loudspeaker assembly and have a length of 3.9 mm.
  • There are seven screws in total, securing the assembly to the device.

Step 14 | Remove the loudspeaker

  • Insert the flat end of a spudger into the gap between the right edge of the loudspeaker assembly and the midframe.
  • Pry up the loudspeaker assembly using your spudger.
  • Remove the loudspeaker assembly.

Step 15 | Heat the fingerprint sensor

Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the display for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive holding the fingerprint sensor in place.

  • The iOpener should be left on for a minimum of two minutes to effectively loosen the adhesive underneath.
  • Alternatively, a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may be used; however, exercise caution to avoid overheating the phone.

Be cautious not to overheat the phone as the display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

Step 16 | Disconnect the fingerprint sensor

Disconnect the fingerprint sensor from the daughterboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 17 | Remove the fingerprint sensor

Locate and carefully dislodge the fingerprint sensor from its socket using the flat end of a spudger.

  • Once freed, use a pair of tweezers or your fingers to completely remove the fingerprint sensor.
