Samsung Galaxy A53 5G Battery Replacement

Discharge battery below 25% before disassembly to avoid fire risk.

  • Replace swollen batteries with caution, taking necessary precautions.

When reassembling:

  • Reattach components using replacement adhesive.
  • Apply new adhesive seals for water protection.

Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Step 1 image

Excessive heat can cause permanent damage to the display and battery.

  • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen adhesive underneath.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but keep the device away from direct heat sources to avoid damage.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the right edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

  • Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
  • In case you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.

Insert an opening pick into the gap you created.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Slide the opening pick to the top right corner to cut the adhesive.

Do not remove the pick until the repair is complete — risk of adhesive resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the top right edge of your phone.

  • Slide the opening pick to the bottom right corner to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening picks in place to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Reheat hardened adhesive with iOpener for 1-2 minutes.

  • Insert a new opening pick at the bottom right phone corner.
  • Slide this pick along the bottom edge to slice the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place, especially at the bottom left corner, to prevent re-adhesion.

Remove the back cover.

  • Clean the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and apply new adhesive as needed.
  • Secure the new back cover using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape.
  • Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to help the adhesive bond properly. A stack of heavy books can be used for this purpose.

Step 9 | Unscrew the motherboard cover

Step 9 image

Remove the motherboard cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • Remove the eight 3.9mm long Phillips screws securing the motherboard cover.

Step 10 | Pry up the motherboard cover

Step 18 | Loosen the battery adhesive

Step 18 image

Never apply direct heat to the battery — significant safety risk.

  • Apply a heated iOpener to loosen the adhesive under the battery for at least five minutes.
  • Alternative methods include using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, but exercise extreme caution to avoid overheating the device.

Step 19 | Insert a plastic card

Risk of chemical leak or fire if the battery is punctured or bent.

  • Insert a plastic card into the gap between the battery and the frame.
  • Use the plastic card to slice the adhesive underneath the battery.
  • Pry the battery up using the plastic card.
  • If using isopropyl alcohol, let it penetrate for at least two minutes before removal.

For extremely stubborn adhesives on Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, apply a few drops of high concentration (over 90%) isopropyl alcohol to the gaps between the battery and midframe.

Step 20 | Remove the battery

Step 20 image
  • Remove the battery.
  • Secure the new battery using pre-cut adhesive or double-sided tape, applied in the same locations as the old adhesive, not directly onto the battery. Press firmly into place.
  • Reconnect the battery to the motherboard temporarily during reassembly to aid alignment. Disconnect immediately once seated.
