Step 1 | Heat the back cover

Prepare an iOpener by applying it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

Be cautious when using a hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate, as overheating can damage the display and internal battery.

Step 2 | Insert an opening pick

Secure a suction handle to the right edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.

Lift the back cover with the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.
If necessary, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive. Follow the iOpener instructions to avoid overheating.
Insert an opening pick into the gap you created.

Step 3 | Slice the adhesive

Insert the opening pick into the top right corner and apply gentle pressure.

Slice through the adhesive using a smooth, sliding motion.
Leave the opening pick in place to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert a second opening pick at the top right edge.

Move it to the bottom right corner, slicing the adhesive.
Leave both picks in place to avoid re-adhesion.

Step 5

Do not proceed if adhesive becomes hard to cut, as this indicates it has cooled down.

Reheat the adhesive with your iOpener for one to two minutes.
Insert a third opening pick at the bottom right corner of your phone.
Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of your phone, slicing the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 6

Insert the fourth opening pick into the bottom left corner.

Slide it along the left edge to cut the adhesive.
Leave this pick in the top left corner to keep the adhesive from sealing again.

Step 7

Place a fifth opening pick at the top left corner.
Work the pick along the top edge, cutting the remaining adhesive.

Step 8 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

Clean relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%) and apply new adhesive where necessary.
Back cover replacement tape or double-sided adhesive tape: Secure the new back cover in place.

Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to allow the adhesive to bond properly. A stack of heavy books can be used to apply even pressure.
