Failing to replace adhesive seals during reassembly may compromise water resistance and render your device vulnerable to damage.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.
Be careful not to overheat the phone, as the display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.
Secure a suction handle to the right edge of the back cover, as close to the edge as possible.
If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat using the iOpener, but follow its instructions carefully to avoid overheating.
Insert an opening pick into the gap you created.
Slide the opening pick to the top right corner to slice the adhesive.
Never remove the opening pick, as this will allow the adhesive to reseal.
Insert a second opening pick at the top right edge.
Reapply heat with an iOpener if the adhesive becomes hard to cut.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the bottom left corner of the phone.
Apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes after installing the back cover. A stack of heavy books can help ensure a good bond.
Remove the motherboard cover with a Phillips screwdriver, using it to take out the ten 4.4 mm screws.
Insert opening pick under the left edge of the motherboard cover.
Disconnect the battery cable by prying the connector straight up from its socket using a spudger.
