Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) Battery Replacement

Opening the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) will damage its waterproof sealing.

  • Use this guide to replace the battery in your Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017).

If you do not replace the adhesive seals, your phone's water-protection will be compromised.

Do not heat a swollen battery – it can be very dangerous.

  • Wear eye protection and exercise caution when handling a swollen battery.
  • If unsure how to proceed, take the device to a professional for assistance.

You'll need replacement adhesive to reattach the battery and back cover during reassembly.

Step 1 | Back Cover Removal

Step 1 image

Power off your phone before disassembling.

  • Apply an iOpener for at least two minutes to loosen the adhesive beneath the back cover.
  • You may need to repeat this process several times during removal.
  • If necessary, use a heat source like a hair dryer or heat gun to aid in adhesion release.
  • Avoid overheating, as the AMOLED display and internal battery are sensitive to excessive heat.

Insert an opening pick at the bottom end of your phone.

  • If it doesn't fit, use a suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and frame.
  • Slide the opening pick's tip to the bottom left corner, cutting the adhesive with it.
  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent resealing.
  • Insert another opening pick and cut the adhesive on the phone's left side.
