Replacing the USB port requires extreme care due to a resin glue that makes unsoldering difficult.
Great care must be taken when handling this rigid-flex board and lifting the glass screen to avoid further damage.
Insert the SIM card eject tool, a SIM eject bit or a straightened paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray at the left side of the phone.
Power off your phone completely before starting this procedure.
The AMOLED display and internal battery are vulnerable to heat damage.
Insert the tip of an opening pick between the frame and the back cover at the bottom near the USB-C port.
Insert a second opening pick at the bottom right corner.
Insert a third opening pick under the bottom left corner of the back cover.
Apply too much heat and you risk damaging your phone's internal components.
Insert a fourth opening pick under the top left corner of the back cover near the camera.
Remove the back cover.
Locate the display flex cable on the bottom of the phone, then use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry it up and disconnect.
Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the display for at least two minutes.
Apply a suction cup to the upper edge of the phone when it's warm to the touch.
If the screen is cracked, use strong tape or superglue the suction cup in place and let it cure before proceeding — risk of adhesive failure.
Slide another opening pick to the top left corner.
Do not remove the opening picks until repairs are complete, as this may cause the adhesive to seal over again.
Insert another opening pick near the left edge, sliding it along to break the adhesive.
Leave the opening pick to prevent adhesive resealing.
Insert a fifth opening pick near the top left corner, then slide it down the left edge to break up any remaining adhesive.
Apply heat to the screen with a iOpener.
Be aware of the rectangular adhesive strip underneath the screen.
Insert a plastic card into the gap between display and phone assembly on left edge.
Do not remove the screen yet, as display cable remains threaded through frame.
Thread the display cable carefully through the frame.
Disconnect the screen from its mounting points.
Locate and disconnect the antenna connector on the lower right side.
Disconnect the main board connector using a spudger from the rear side of the PCB.
Avoid damaging the flex part.
Peel off the PCB from its compartment and lift it without pulling.
Be careful not to damage or disconnect the two flex cables connected to the buttons at each end of the PCB (circled in red on the photo).
Careful not to damage the underlying components.
Peel away the two button connector strips.
The replacement board is shown as a whole. Note that the flex parts marked in yellow on the image are the most delicate components of the PCB.
Install the new USB board into its enclosure.
Remove all sticker remnants from glued parts using a gentle adhesive remover.
Reconnect the antenna connector.
Reassemble the 17 screws at the rear of the phone.
