Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) Display Replacement

Switch off your phone.

Careful not to burn yourself when using the iOpener.

  • Use the iOpener to heat up and soften the glue behind the back cover.
  • Lift the back cover with a suction handle to insert an opening pick.

  • Slide the pick upwards to the middle, separating the back cover from the frame.
  • Insert a second opening pick and navigate it around the right corner along the bottom edge and then around the left corner.

Continue to the top corner, applying one final opening pick.

  • Position it in the remaining gap.

Insert a plastic card at the bottom of the device.

Slide the card carefully underneath the back cover.

Do not start removing the back cover without first checking underneath for obstructions like the NFC antenna.

  • Heat the back cover to loosen the adhesive.
  • Slide a plastic card towards the top and stop at the camera bump.
  • Lift the back cover carefully and remove it.
  • Remove any residue from the adhesive and apply new adhesive when reassembling.

Remove the SIM card tray.

  • Remove all 17 Phillips #00 screws on the midframe.

Push the exposed part of the new battery away from the midframe to separate the components.

  • Remove and safely store the old IMEI sticker for transfer to the new battery.

  • Disconnect the display connector with a flat-end spudger.
  • Do not apply excessive heat, reheat the iOpener and use it to loosen the adhesive under the display.

Insert a Jimmy between the frame and front panel.

  • Pry up the display unit slightly with the Jimmy to create space for an opening pick.
  • Position the opening pick tip near where the display cable is, then slide it down the side to loosen adhesive.
  • Be careful not to insert the pick too far at this stage or you may damage the screen's internal components.

For added security, insert the opening pick further at the bottom to prevent re-adhesion of the adhesive.

Insert the opening pick up to 0.5 inches into the gap, targeting the adhesive behind the battery.

  • Work on the other side of the device.
  • Slide the opening pick down towards the display's edge.

Slide the tool along the bottom edge to remove excess glue.

Careful not to damage the touch buttons located on either side, behind the front panel.

Only insert the tool as far as the home button, avoiding any sensitive areas.

Reheat the display unit.

  • Allow it to cool slightly if necessary, but keep it warm.

Remove the existing opening pick on the left-hand side and insert a plastic card.

  • Work the plastic card to loosen the adhesive holding the battery in place.
  • Continue separating the adhesive until you reach the display cable.

  • Remove the display from its frame.
  • Cut excess glue at the top with an opening pick.
  • Gently slide the display cable out of its slot in the frame.

Plug in the new display to the motherboard and power on your phone for a short test.

  • Verify that the display lights up and touch functionality works as expected.
  • Remove any residual adhesive from the display and rear glass.
  • Reapply adhesive as necessary to ensure proper sealing.
