Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) Battery Replacement

Discharging the battery below 25% is crucial to prevent potential explosion or fire in case of accidental damage.

  • Assess whether your Galaxy A5's battery is swollen, and take necessary precautions.
  • Remove the rear glass cover using a suitable method.
  • Disconnect the mid frame from the phone.

Switch off your phone.

  • Heat up the adhesive with an iOpener.
  • Lift the back cover using a suction handle, and insert an opening pick.

Insert a second opening pick at the right corner and work your way along the bottom edge, then around the left corner.

  • Keep the first pick in place near the middle of the device.
  • Move the second pick to separate the back cover from the frame.

Continue up the edge with an additional opening pick.

  • Use it to carefully remove the remaining adhesive.

Insert a plastic card at the bottom of the device.

  • Slide the card underneath the back cover.

Always check for hidden components underneath the back cover before lifting.

  • Heat the back cover, then slide a plastic card towards the top.
  • Verify the NFC antenna is exposed and not damaged.

Move the card to the camera bump and slowly lift up the back cover.

Carefully remove any residue from old adhesive during reassembly.

Apply new adhesive when replacing the back cover.

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • Unfasten the 17 Phillips #00 (3.4 mm) screws on the midframe.

Push the exposed battery portion away from the midframe.

  • Separate the components by moving the battery.

Transfer the IMEI sticker from your old battery to the new one for future identification purposes.

Be extremely careful not to puncture the battery.

  • Use a metal prying tool, such as a Jimmy, to carefully pry out the plastic battery spacer from the daughterboard end of the battery cavity.
  • Remove the plastic spacer from the phone.

Insert the opening pick into the left side.

  • Slide another opening pick into the right side, but not too deep.
  • Avoid damaging the LCD screen underneath.

Slide the opening picks upwards to release the battery from its adhesive.

  • Once loose, carefully remove the battery.
