Samsung Galaxy A40 Battery Replacement

Do not proceed with a swollen battery, as it may pose safety risks.

  • Discharge your battery to below 25% before disassembly for thermal protection.
  • Replace the worn-out or dead battery in your Samsung Galaxy A40.

Additional replacement adhesive will be required for reassembling the device.

Step 1 | Remove the SIM tray

Insert a SIM eject tool, SIM eject bit, or a straightened paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray on the phone's left side.

  • Firmly press the tool into the hole to eject the SIM card tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM card tray.
  • When reinserting cards, ensure they are properly oriented in the tray.

Step 2 | Loosen the back cover adhesive

Heat the iOpener and apply it to the back cover for at least two minutes.

  • The heat will loosen the adhesive underneath.

Step 3 | Insert an opening pick

Attach a suction handle to the right edge of the back cover.

  • If the back cover is damaged, use strong tape or superglue to secure the suction handle.
  • Lift the back cover using the suction handle to create a small gap between the back cover and the frame.

Insert an opening pick into the gap created.

Apply more heat with caution, following iOpener instructions to avoid overheating if you have trouble creating a gap.

Step 4 | Slice the adhesive

Insert the opening pick at the bottom right corner and keep it there to stop the adhesive from reforming.

Step 5 | Insert a second opening pick

Insert the second opening pick at the bottom right corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the right edge of your phone to cut the adhesive beneath the back cover.
  • Leave the opening pick in place, securing it in the top right corner.

You can now remove the suction cup or continue to use it for a better grip.

Step 6 | Cut the adhesive

Insert a third opening pick at the top right corner of your phone.

  • Slide the opening pick along the top edge to break the adhesive.
  • Leave the pick in the top left corner to prevent resealing.
  • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, use an iOpener to reheat it and try again.

Insert the fourth opening pick into the top left corner.

  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge, cutting the adhesive.
  • Leave it in place at the bottom left corner.

Insert a fifth opening pick at a depth of approximately 0.4 inch (1cm) from the bottom edge.

  • This will help cut through any remaining adhesive at the bottom of your phone.

Step 9 | Remove the back cover

Make sure to hold the fingerprint reader firmly in place with your finger.

  • Fold the back cover upwards, keeping gentle pressure on the fingerprint reader.
  • Continue lifting and remove the back cover completely.

Step 10 | Unfasten the screws

Remove all thirteen Phillips #00 screws, each measuring 3.4mm long.

Step 11 | Insert an opening pick

  • Insert an opening pick between the left edge of the phone assembly and the midframe.
  • Slide the opening pick along the left edge to release the plastic clips.

Step 12 | Release the plastic clips

Insert the opening pick into the bottom right corner and gently pry the plastic clips free from the phone assembly.

Slide the opening pick along the right edge of the phone assembly to disengage the remaining plastic clips securing the midframe.

  • Target the area where the midframe meets the phone's frame.
  • Gently pry the clips loose with a gentle rocking motion.

Step 14 | Remove the midframe

Remove the midscreen.

Step 15 | Disconnect the battery

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up and release the battery cable.

Step 16 | Disconnect the main flex cable

Use a spudger to gently pry up the upper end of the main flex cable.

  • Disconnect the main flex cable by carefully prying it away from its connection.

Step 17 | Remove the main flex cable

  • Use a spudger to pry up and disconnect the bottom end of the main flex cable.
  • Remove the main flex cable.

Step 18 | Apply adhesive remover

Avoid applying adhesive remover in the bottom right corner near the display connector, as it may loosen the display adhesive.

  • Prepare by tilting your phone to a 45° angle and lifting its right edge.
  • Apply a few drops of adhesive remover or isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher) into the gap beneath the battery, avoiding the right edge.
  • Tilt the phone toward the rear-facing camera to spread the adhesive remover beneath the battery.
  • Allow the adhesive remover to penetrate for at least 1 minute.

Step 19 | Pry up the battery

Avoid deforming the battery to prevent potential chemical leakage or fire/explosion risks.

  • Insert a spudger into the gap at the bottom left edge of the battery.
  • Slide the spudger underneath the battery, then use it to carefully pry up the battery.

If the battery is sticky, repeat the adhesive remover procedure before proceeding.

Step 20 | Remove the battery

Remove the battery.

Never reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as this poses a safety hazard.

  • Temporarily reconnect the battery connector to align it correctly with the battery.
  • Adhere the aligned battery in place, disconnect the battery connector, and continue reassembling your phone.
