Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) Display Replacement

Opening the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) will damage its waterproof sealing, compromising water protection.

  • Use this guide to replace the display only, leaving the original frame, logic board, and battery in place.
  • Verify you have the correct replacement part before proceeding; some screens come pre-installed with a new frame (chassis).

Separating the display from the frame usually damages it, so only follow this guide to replace the display.

  • You will need replacement adhesive for reattaching the new display and back cover during reassembly.

Step 1 | Back cover replacement

Step 1 image

Power off your phone before disassembly.

  • iOpener: Apply for at least two minutes, repeating as needed to loosen adhesive beneath back cover.
  • Alternative options: Hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may be used with caution; avoid overheating phone.

Be careful not to overheat your phone — AMOLED display and internal battery are susceptible to heat damage.

  • Leave the opening pick in place to prevent re-adhesion.
  • Insert another opening pick and begin cutting the adhesive towards the bottom left side.

Use an opening pick to cut the adhesive around the entire phone.

Remove one opening pick from each corner to prevent resealing.

  • Reuse the iOpener if cutting becomes difficult.
  • The back cover is under tension, so ensure the adhesive is loose enough to avoid breakage.
  • Insert an opening pick on the right side and flip it sideways for a secure grip on the back cover.

Avoid fully opening the phone yet, as the display cable may get caught.

  • Lift the upper edge of the display assembly carefully to thread the display flex cable through the mid frame.
  • Verify that home and menu button cables aren't stuck to the display before removing it completely.
  • If a cable sticks, use tweezers or an opening pick to gently remove it.
