Samsung Galaxy A3 2016 Display Replacement

This repair guide is for replacing a damaged display or cracked glass on the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) device.

Step 1 | Back cover

Switch off your device.

  • Heat the adhesive behind the back cover using an iOpener to loosen it.
  • Lift the lower edge of the back cover with a suction handle, then insert an opening pick.

Insert the opening pick near the rear camera and slide it towards the edge of the device.

  • The back cover should begin to separate from the frame.

  • Insert another opening pick near the opposite lower corner.
  • Migrate the tool to the other side of the device.

Locate the second pick on the left side of the back cover.

  • Move it downwards along the left edge to loosen the adhesive.
  • Rotate the pick around the upper left corner and loosen the adhesive above the rear camera.
  • Once all edges and sides are loose, use an iOpener on the underside of the back cover to loosen the center adhesive.

  • Insert a plastic card into the bottom of the device.
  • Slide the card underneath the back cover until you reach the rear camera.
  • Lift up the back cover slowly and separate it from the device's adhesive.
  • Finally, remove the back cover.

Step 6 | Display

  • Remove the SIM card tray.
  • Remove all 16 Phillips #00 screws from the midframe.

Apply gentle heat from an iOpener to loosen the adhesive around the mid frame.

Push the exposed part of the battery away from the midframe.

  • Separate the components.
  • Remove the midframe.

  • Disconnect the display cable using the flat end of a spudger.
  • Apply heat to the glue behind the display with an iOpener.

Apply heat with a Jimmy between the frame and front panel.

  • Pry up the display unit slightly, allowing an opening pick to be inserted behind it.
  • Carefully avoid damaging the display cable.
  • Slide down along the side edge to separate the adhesive.
  • At the bottom, insert the opening pick further to prevent resealing of the glue.

Insert the opening pick up to 0.5 inches deep on the other side, targeting the adhesive behind the battery.

  • Be mindful of the display cable running along the top.
  • Progress down the length of the phone, stopping at the display's edge.

Slide along the bottom of the device to loosen the adhesive.

  • Beware that there are two touch buttons located on either side, just behind the front panel.
  • Limited insertion: only go as deep as the area where the home button begins.

Reheat the display unit to ensure continued functionality.

Replace the opening pick on the left-hand side with a plastic card to access the glue behind the battery.

  • Continue separating the adhesive until reaching the display cable.

Separate the display from the display frame.

Carefully cut the remaining glue at the top with an opening pick to avoid damaging the display.

  • Slide the display cable out of the slot in the display frame.

Before reassembling, plug the new display into the motherboard and perform a short test by powering on your phone. Verify that the display lights up and touch functions correctly.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive from the display and rear glass, and apply new adhesive as needed.
