Allow the phone's battery to drain below 25% before proceeding, as a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables from the phone.
  • Completely power off the device.
  • Press and hold the power button and volume down button simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Apply iOpener or use a hair dryer on low heat to heat the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Be cautious not to overheat, as the phone's display, internal battery, and plastic back are prone to damage.

  • The phone should be warm but not hot enough to cause discomfort when touched.

Step 3

Step 3 image

Beware of excessive adhesive depth to avoid damage.

  • Adhesive surrounds back cover on frame perimeter and near bottom.
  • Maintain 4mm or less depth from edge, except at adhesive application area.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle near the right edge of the back cover.

  • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap.
  • If needed, apply more heat to soften adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

Step 5 | Slice the adhesive

Insert another opening pick into the bottom left corner, and slide it along the left edge to cut through the adhesive.

Leave this pick in the top left corner to prevent re-adhesion.

  • Limit insertion depth of each pick to 4 mm to avoid damaging rear cameras or flash.

Step 10

Lift and remove the back cover.

  • Power on the phone and test all functions before reassembling.
  • Be sure to power down completely before continuing work.

  • Remove any remaining adhesive chunks with a pair of tweezers or your fingers.
  • Apply heat and 90% isopropyl alcohol if needed for stubborn adhesive.

Custom-cut adhesives: follow the provided guide.
