Samsung Galaxy A15 USB-C Charging Port and Daughterboard Replacement

Ensure you have the correct replacement parts before starting the repair.

  • Remove the back cover and daughterboard from the Samsung Galaxy A15 using a spudger.
  • Save the original screws and back panel adhesive for reassembly.
  • Disconnect the daughterboard connector.
  • Replace the USB-C charging port and daughterboard with new components.
  • Reattach the daughterboard and reconnect its connector.
  • Apply replacement adhesive to the back cover before reassembling it.

Step 1 | Prepare the phone for disassembly

Do not start repair with a fully charged lithium-ion battery, risk of thermal runaway.

  • Disconnect all cables from the phone and power it completely off.
  • Press and hold both the power and volume down buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Apply an iOpener or use a hair dryer to the right edge of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Do not overheat; risk of heat damage to the display, internal battery, and plastic back.

The phone should be warm but not excessively hot.

Check your work so far: the adhesive has softened.

  • The back cover is secured by adhesive around the frame's perimeter.
  • There's an extra layer of adhesive near the bottom; avoid this area.
  • Stay within 4mm of the edge in all other areas.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply suction handle near center of right edge.

  • Pull up with strong, steady force to create gap.
  • If trouble persists, apply more heat.
  • Insert opening pick into the gap.

Step 5 | Slice the adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the right edge between the back cover and the frame, slicing through the adhesive.

  • Position the opening pick at the bottom right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6

Reheat the iOpener until hot.

  • Apply the heated iOpener to the bottom of the back cover for exactly two minutes.

  • Insert an additional opening pick into the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the new opening pick along the bottom edge to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave one opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the left side of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Insert another opening pick at the bottom left corner and slide it along the left edge to cut through the adhesive.

  • Leave one pick in the top left corner to keep the adhesive from resealing.
  • Only insert opening picks up to 4 mm deep to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.

Step 10

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the top of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Insert an additional opening pick into the top left corner, parallel to the existing one.

  • Slide it along the top edge, applying gentle pressure to slice through the adhesive.
  • Leave a separate opening pick in the top right corner to prevent resealing of the adhesive.

Step 12 | Unfasten the camera clips

Insert an opening pick along the top edge of the phone, twisting it gently.

  • Twist until you unfasten the camera clips.
  • Slide the pick around the edge of the camera modules to release remaining clips.

Avoid inserting the pick more than 4 mm to prevent damaging rear cameras or flash.

Step 13 | Slice remaining adhesive

Insert an opening pick deeper into the bottom edge, starting from the bottom left corner.

  • Guide the pick along the bottom edge of the phone, carefully slicing through the remaining adhesive.

Step 14 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover.

  • Before reassembling, power on and test all phone functions.

  • Power down the phone completely before proceeding with reassembly.

  • Remove adhesive chunks using tweezers or your fingers.
  • If necessary, apply heat and 90% or greater isopropyl alcohol to aid removal.

For custom-cut adhesives, follow the provided guide.

For double-sided tape, consult the separate instructions.

Step 15 | Remove the SIM tray

Insert a SIM card eject tool, bit, or a straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray.

Be careful not to push too hard and damage the phone's edge.

Eject the tray by pressing in firmly, then remove it.

Step 16 | Remove the frame screws

Remove the fourteen 4 mm screws holding the frame to the chassis.

Step 17 | Disconnect the fingerprint button

Use a spudger with a flat end to gently pry up the fingerprint button press connector from its socket on the motherboard.

Step 18 | Unfasten the frame clips

Flip the phone over with the screen facing upwards.

  • Insert an opening pick into the SIM card tray cutout, creating a gap between the frame and the phone.
  • Slide the opening pick down the left edge of the device to release the frame clips.

Slide the opening pick around the phone's edges to release all clips.

  • If the opening pick is removed from the phone, reinsert it into the last unfastened corner.

Step 20 | Remove the frame

Remove the phone frame by pulling it directly away from the phone.

Step 21 | Disconnect the battery

Use the flat end of a spudger to lift up and release the battery press connector from the motherboard.

Step 22 | Disconnect the interconnect cable

Ensure connectors are separated, not just pulled out.

  • Identify the correct cable to be removed: OCTA is actually a display connector.
  • Insert spudger under top "OCTA" cable overhang and pry upwards to disconnect.

Use the flat end of a spudger to carefully pry up the "SUB" connector.

  • Gently lift the connector away from the daughterboard.
  • Once lifted, manually disconnect the "SUB" connector.

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry up the "MAIN" connector from the motherboard.

  • Once exposed, carefully pull the connector away from the motherboard.
  • Disconnect the MAIN connector completely.

Step 25 | Remove the interconnect cable

Remove the interconnect cable from the phone.

Step 26 | Disconnect the coaxial antenna connectors

Insert one arm of angled tweezers under the metal neck of the red antenna coaxial connector.

  • Lift straight up to disconnect it.
  • Be gentle when removing the red antenna cable from its holder to avoid damaging the cable.

Repeat for the other connector.

If having trouble reassembling, try repositioning the head and use a spudger or your finger to press down gently – the connector should "snap" into place.

Step 27 | Detach the display cable connector

Insert the flat end of a spudger underneath the flex ribbon connector and pry it off.

  • Take note that you may need to replace the adhesive during reassembly.
  • If your new daughterboard lacks adhesive, use thin, double-sided adhesive instead.

Step 28 | Remove the daughterboard screw

Remove the screw securing the daughterboard using a Phillips screwdriver.

  • The screw is approximately 3 mm in length.

Step 29 | Remove the daughterboard

Hold the daughterboard by its edges.

  • Pull the board upwards and out of the phone.
