Samsung Galaxy A15 Battery Replacement

Note: When replacing a swollen battery, take necessary safety precautions.

  • Purchase replacement adhesive for the back cover and a new battery (if not included).
  • If your new battery does not come with adhesive, apply stretch release adhesive instead.

Step 1 | Prepare the phone for disassembly

Allow the phone's battery to drain below 25% — a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables and fully power off the phone.
  • Press and hold the power and volume down buttons simultaneously to access the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Avoid overheating the phone's components.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer at low heat setting, carefully monitoring temperature to avoid damage.

While waiting for the adhesive to soften, note:

  • The back cover is secured by adhesive around the perimeter of the frame.
  • An additional layer of adhesive is present at the bottom of the phone.

Avoid going deeper than 4 mm from the edge in areas without extra adhesive to prevent damage.

Step 4 | Insert an opening pick

Apply a suction handle to the back cover near its right edge center.

  • Pull up firmly on the suction handle to separate the cover from the frame.
  • If necessary, reapply heat to soften the adhesive further.
  • Insert an opening pick into the gap created.

Step 5 | Slice the adhesive

  • Run the opening pick along the right edge, between the back cover and the frame, to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave the opening pick in the bottom right corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Step 6

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the bottom of the back cover for two minutes.

Alternatively, using list format:
  • Reheat the iOpener.
  • Apply the heated iOpener to the bottom of the back cover for two minutes.

  • Insert an additional opening pick at the bottom right corner.
  • Slide the new opening pick along the bottom edge to cut through the adhesive.
  • Leave one opening pick in the bottom left corner to prevent re-adhesion.

Reapply heat from your iOpener to the left side of the back cover for 2 minutes.

Insert another opening pick into the bottom left corner, sliding it along the left edge to cut through the adhesive.

  • Leave this pick in the top left corner to prevent re-adhesion.
  • Limit insertion depth to 4 mm to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.

Step 10

Reheat the iOpener and apply it to the top of the back cover for 2 minutes.

  • Insert an opening pick into the top left corner, repeating the previous insertion point's depth.
  • Move this pick along the top edge until it slices through the adhesive.

Leave one pick in the top right corner to prevent re-sealing of the adhesive.

Step 12 | Unfasten the camera clips

Insert an opening pick along the top edge of the phone and twist it gently to unfasten the camera clips.

  • Slide the opening pick around the edge of the camera modules to unfasten the remaining camera clips.
  • Limit insertion depth to 4 mm to avoid damaging the rear cameras or flash.

Step 13 | Slice remaining adhesive

Insert an opening pick into the bottom left corner of the phone.

  • Work the pick along the bottom edge to loosen the remaining adhesive.
  • Slide the pick across the bottom, cutting through the rest of the adhesive.

Step 14 | Remove the back cover

Remove the back cover by lifting it off.

  • Power on the phone and test all functions during reassembly.
  • Make sure to power down the phone completely before proceeding.

  • Use tweezers or your fingers to remove adhesive chunks.
  • If necessary, apply heat and 90% isopropyl alcohol to aid removal.

Step 15 | Remove the SIM tray

Insert a SIM card eject tool, ejector pin, or a straightened paperclip into the hole on the SIM tray, located towards the top of the phone on the left edge.

  • Press in firmly to eject the tray.
  • Remove the ejected SIM tray.

Step 16 | Remove the frame screws

  • Remove all fourteen 4mm-long screws that secure the frame to the chassis.

Step 17 | Disconnect the fingerprint button

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up the fingerprint button press connector and release it from the motherboard.

Step 18 | Unfasten the frame clips

Flip the phone over with the screen facing up.

  • Insert an opening pick between the screen and the SIM card tray cutout to create a gap.
  • Slide the opening pick down the left edge of the device to unfasten the frame clips.

Continuously slide the opening pick around the edge of the phone to release all the clips.

  • If the opening pick is dislodged, re-insert it into the last released corner.

Step 20 | Remove the frame

Remove the phone frame directly and pull it away from the device.

Step 21 | Disconnect the battery

Use a spudger to lift and disconnect the battery press connector from the motherboard.

Step 22 | Disconnect the interconnect cable

Identify the "OCTA" connector, which is actually connected to the display cable.

Careful not to mix the connectors with each other.

  • Insert a spudger under the top "OCTA" cable connector's overhang.
  • Pry up the top connector away from the bottom one until they're completely disconnected.

Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry up the "SUB" connector.

  • Position the spudger carefully under the connector.
  • Pry upwards to release the connector from the daughterboard.
  • Once loose, disconnect the "SUB" connector completely.

Disconnect the MAIN connector from the motherboard using the flat end of a spudger.

Step 25 | Remove the interconnect cable

Remove the interconnect cable by taking it out of the phone.

Step 26 | Peel up the pull tabs

Peel up the blue battery pull tab until accessible.

Peel the small tabs at the top and bottom left corners of the battery using your fingers.

Make sure the tabs are fully separated or the battery won't lift properly in the next step.

Step 28 | Separate the battery adhesive

Do not crease or bend the battery as it may leak hazardous chemicals or catch fire.

  • With one hand, fold the upper and lower tabs out of the way using the other hand to hold down the frame firmly.
  • Pull up on the blue battery pull tab with strong steady force until it separates from its adhesive in the phone.
  • If the battery remains stuck, apply 3-5 drops of 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol underneath and wait a few minutes before retrying.

Step 29 | Remove the battery adhesive

Remove all remaining battery adhesive from the phone frame.

Step 30 | Remove the battery

Step 30 image

Remove the battery and its protective film.
