Let the phone's battery drain below 25% before starting this repair; a charged lithium-ion battery may catch fire if damaged.

  • Unplug all cables and completely power off the phone.
  • Press and hold both the power button and volume down button simultaneously to bring up the shutdown menu.

Step 2 | Heat the right edge

Step 2 image

Do not apply excessive heat, as this can cause damage to the display, internal battery, or plastic back.

  • Apply an iOpener to the right edge of the back cover for two minutes.
  • Alternatively, use a hair dryer but avoid overheating the phone.

Step 3

The back cover has adhesive securing it to the frame.

  • There's extra adhesive at the bottom of the phone.

Apply a suction handle to the back cover, near its center on the right edge.
