Samsung Fascinate Motherboard Replacement

Access the motherboard on a Samsung Galaxy S for removal or replacement by following these steps.

Step 1 | Back Case

Locate the slit at the bottom edge of the device.

  • A spudger may be required for this step.

Insert the edge of the spudger into the slit on the phone.

Use the spudger to gently pry the back case off the phone.

Step 3 | Battery

Insert the plastic spudger into the gap between the battery and the phone, then pry the battery out by sliding the spudger along its underside.

Step 4 | Speaker

Unscrew the 6 silver screws using a screwdriver.

  • If the screws are stuck, use a spudger to gently pry them loose.

Identify the groove between the silver edge and black edge.

  • Insert the thin edge of a plastic opening tool into the identified groove.
  • Pry the main case from the LCD touchscreen by running the tool all the way around the edge of the phone.

  • Detach the clips holding the Main Case in place.
  • Separate the Main Case from the LCD Touchscreen.

Use the spudger to gently remove the grey rubber part (a rectangular component) from the main case.

Insert the spudger into the groove between the speaker and the main case.

  • Pry gently along this groove using a smooth, even motion.
  • The speaker should now come loose and pop out easily.

Step 9 | Camera

  • Detach the black square component using a plastic opening tool.
  • Pry the camera unit, which is attached to it, away from the motherboard.

Step 10 | Motherboard

Disconnect the white wire boxed in red using a plastic opening tool.

  • Carefully disconnect the green and golden components from the motherboard.
  • The components may not completely detach from the motherboard initially.

Do not pull on the wires — risk of damaging the connections.

  • Remove the black screw circled in blue using a screwdriver.
  • Lift the motherboard off the touchscreen.
  • The motherboard remains attached to the phone by wires.

Insert the plastic opening tool into the gap.

  • Gently pry the silver cylinder out of its housing.
  • The cylinder is held by a weak adhesive, making it relatively easy to remove.
