Samsung Epic 4G Touchscreen Replacement

The Samsung Epic 4G's touch screen removal process is outlined below. Note that once the screen is removed, you can reverse this guide to reassemble your device.

Step 1 | Phone Case

Slide your fingernail along the edge of the device.

  • Pull at the plastic backing until you hear a snap sound indicating it has detached.

Hold the device firmly and gently pull the plastic backing until you hear a distinct snap sound.

Step 3 | Battery

Remove the battery by pulling its edge upwards.

Step 4 | Removing the Memory Card:

Locate the memory card on the upper right-hand corner of the device.

  • Remove the memory card from its holder by gently sliding it out with your fingers.

Step 5 | Removing the Back Housing

Remove the 7 screws on the back of the phone with a Phillips #000 screwdriver.

  • Use a nylon spudger to carefully pry between the backing and silver trim around the phone.
  • The buttons (including the power button) will fall out during this process.

Step 6 | Removing the Power Button

Remove the power button using tweezers, if it has not already been dislodged.

  • Replace with a new power button supplied by the manufacturer, if necessary.

Step 7 | Micro USB Port

Remove the white cable on the right side, next to the battery housing, with a nylon spudger.

  • Pull both ends of the white cable out.
  • The cables will easily snap free without excessive force.

Do not rip the white cables from the device — risk of damage.

Step 8 | Removing the Antenna Assembly

  • Use a Tri-Point Y0 screwdriver to remove the screw holding the antenna assembly in place.
  • Snap the antenna assembly out of the device gently with your fingers.

Step 9 | Removing the Flex Cable

Use a nylon spudger to pry the top flex cable loose.

  • Continue with the same tool to release the larger flex cable from the left side, situated beneath the smaller one.

Step 10

  • Lift out the motherboard from the device.
  • USB port on the top edge of the motherboard.
  • Replace the USB port with a new one from a reputable manufacturer, ensuring compatibility with your system.

Step 11 | Camera Lens

Remove the old camera lens by gently twisting it counterclockwise until it comes loose.

Do not touch any internal components to avoid damage or electric shock.

  • Align the new camera lens with the existing mount and twist it clockwise until secure.
  • Ensure the lens is properly seated and tightened to prevent damage from movement.

Step 12 | Keyboard

Remove the white label sticker.

  • Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws on the left side of the device.
  • The screws are located in two places: behind the white label and directly above it.

Careful not to damage the QWERTY keyboard when removing the mid-plate.

  • Lift up and loosen the metallic silver trim with a nylon spudger.
  • Use the spudger to carefully remove the gray mid-plate.
  • Once the mid-plate is removed, separate it from the device and keyboard.
  • You may now replace the original QWERTY keyboard with a new one. To install, follow the removal steps in reverse order.

Step 14 | Removing the Keypad Housing:

Remove the four Phillips #00 screws securing the keypad housing.

Avoid damaging the flex cable when carefully pulling off the keypad housing.

Step 15 | Removing the Slide Mechanism:

Remove black screw covers with a spudger.

  • Unscrew four corner screws using a Phillips screwdriver.

Avoid pushing the spudger too far into the phone — potential for damage.

  • Pry off the slide mechanism using the flat edge of the spudger.
  • Separate the slide mechanism from the rest of the phone while avoiding the flex cable.

Step 17 | Removing the Flex Cable:

Remove all blue tape with the tweezers.

  • Unsnap and extract the flex cable's large portion.
  • Pull off the front face camera using the tweezers.

Step 18 | Removing the Flex Cable (continued):

Use tweezers to carefully remove the smaller flex cable portion.

  • Pop out the remaining flex cable with a flat spudger.
  • Completely remove the flex cable.

Step 19 | Separating the Screen:

  • Remove the touch sensor flex cable with tweezers.
  • Unfold the white tape strip using a pair of tweezers.
  • Pry out the speaker assembly using a spudger.

Step 20 | Separating the Screen (continued):

Separate the from the screen.

  • Pull them apart carefully.
  • The LCD screen is now removable.
