Samsung Epic 4G Micro USB Port Replacement

Install a new micro USB port by following these steps:

  • Remove the old port from the device using a soldering iron and wick.
  • Clean the area around the installation site with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Apply a thin layer of thermal paste to the new port's pins.
  • Solder the new port in place, ensuring secure connections.
  • Test the port for proper function.

Slide your fingernail along the edge of the device to release the plastic backing.

You may hear a snap sound when it detaches from the device.

Listen for the snap sound and then pull the plastic backing away gently.

Step 3 | Battery

Remove the battery by gently pulling its edge upwards.

Step 4 | Removing the Memory Card:

Locate the memory card in the upper right-hand corner of the device.

  • Gently slide the memory card out of its holder using your fingers.

Step 5 | Removing the Back Housing

Remove seven Phillips #000 screws from the back of the phone.

  • Separate the backing and silver trim using a nylon spudger.
  • This will cause most buttons, including the power button, to fall out.

Step 6 | Removing the Power Button

Remove power button using tweezers.

  • If a replacement is desired, install a new power button from an authorized manufacturer.

Step 7 | Micro USB Port

Do not rip the white cables from the device.

  • Remove the white cable along the right side using a nylon spudger.
  • Pull out both ends of the white cable without excessive tension.

Step 8 | Removing the Antenna Assembly

Use a Tri-Point Y0 screwdriver to remove the screw securing the antenna assembly.

  • Snap the antenna assembly out of the device gently with your fingers.

Step 9 | Removing the Flex Cable

Use a nylon spudger to pry the large flex cable loose, located on the left side of the phone below the smaller one.

  • Pry the small flex cable from the top of the phone using a nylon spudger.
  • Repeat this step for the larger flex cable located on the left side of the device.

Remove the motherboard using caution to avoid damage.

  • Lift out the motherboard from the device.
  • The USB port is located at the top of the board, just below its removal location.
  • Replace it with a new one, using a part from a known manufacturer to ensure compatibility.
