Samsung Epic 4G Keyboard Replacement

This repair may void your warranty.

  • Reassembly steps will be covered afterwards.

Step 1 | Phone Case

Slide your fingernail along the edge of the device to locate the seam.

  • Pull the plastic backing away from the device at the identified seam.
  • A snap sound will indicate when the backing has detached.

Remove plastic backing by gently pulling after hearing the snap sound.

Step 3 | Battery

Remove the battery from the device.

  • Pull the battery edge upwards to release it.

Step 4 | Removing the Memory Card:

Locate the memory card on the upper right-hand corner of the device.

  • Slide the memory card out of its holder using your fingertips.

Step 5 | Removing the Back Housing

  • Remove seven screws from the back of the phone using a Phillips #000 screwdriver.
  • Use a nylon spudger to pry apart the backing and silver trim around the phone.
  • Most buttons, including the power button, will detach during disassembly.

Step 6 | Removing the Power Button

Locate and carefully remove the power button using a pair of tweezers.

  • If replacing, ensure it is from a reputable manufacturer.

Step 7 | Micro USB Port

Do not pull the white cable too forcefully, as it may damage.

  • Use a nylon spudger to gently remove the white cable.
  • Release both ends of the white cable by carefully snapping them out of place.

Step 8 | Removing the Antenna Assembly

Remove the screw holding the antenna assembly in place with a Tri-Point Y0 screwdriver.

  • Snap the antenna assembly out of the device gently using your fingers.

Step 9 | Removing the Flex Cable

Use a nylon spudger to carefully pry the top flex cable from the phone.

  • Pry the larger flex cable, located on the left side below the smaller one, in the same manner.

Remove the motherboard by lifting it out of the device.

  • Locate the USB port at the top edge of the motherboard.
  • Replace the USB port with a new one from a reputable manufacturer.

Step 11 | Camera Lens

Remove the existing camera lens.

  • Take note of the lens' mounting points.
  • Carefully lift out the old lens.
  • Inspect and clean the lens mount area.
  • Insert the new camera lens into its mounting points.
  • Tighten the lens securely in place.

Step 12 | Keyboard

Remove the white label sticker.

  • Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws on the left side of the device.
  • The two screws are located directly above and behind the white label sticker, respectively.

Remove the metallic silver trim around the phone with a nylon spudger.

  • Loosen but do not remove the trim yet.
  • Use the spudger to carefully lift and remove the gray mid-plate.
  • Take extra care not to damage the QWERTY keyboard, which is directly behind the mid-plate.

Do not open the phone at this time.

Once the mid-plate is removed, you can detach it from the device and keyboard.

  • QWERTY keyboard: Remove the original keyboard or install a replacement. Installation procedure is the reverse of removal.
