Samsung Epic 4G Touch Headphone Jack/Vibrator Replacement

The headphone jack/vibrator replacement requires use of this guide.

Step 1 | Rear Case

Insert a plastic opening tool or your fingertip into the opening near the left side of the headphone jack.

Careful not to damage any components — force may be required.

  • Pry the opening tool downward to pop the rear case from its clips securing it to the midframe.

Remove the rear case by lifting it off.

Step 3 | microSD Card

Use the flat end of a spudger or your fingernail to press the microSD card gently into its slot.

  • Continue pressing until you hear a distinct click.
  • Release the card and it will pop out of its slot.

Make sure the card is securely seated during reassembly to prevent data loss or damage.

  • Push the microSD card into the slot until you hear a second click, indicating it has clicked into place.

Step 4

Remove the micoSD card from its slot.

Step 5 | Battery

Insert a plastic opening tool into the gap between the battery and midframe, near the lower left corner.

Be careful not to apply excessive force, which may damage nearby components.

Pry the battery upwards using a downward motion with the plastic opening tool.

Remove battery from midframe.

Step 7 | Plastic Midframe

Remove the six 4.0 mm Phillips #00 screws holding the midframe to the front panel assembly.

Incorrect prying can make removing the midframe difficult.

  • Reference this display assembly shot with glass facing down to locate insertion points.
  • The first point is a divot left of the micro-USB port.
  • The second point is a divot right of the micro-USB port near the corner.
  • The final point is about two inches right of the volume control toggle, toward the corner.
  • An optional point is slightly to the right of the volume button.

Locate the micro-USB port, then insert a plastic opening tool just to its left.

Pry gently between the midframe and the display until a gap is created.

Insert the plastic opening tool about 1mm to the right of the micro-USB port

  • Pry gently between the midframe and display to widen the gap.

Step 11

Pry approximately 2 inches to the right of the volume control toggles using a suitable prying tool.

Remove the micro-USB connection from the front panel assembly.

  • Pull the front panel assembly away from the midframe.
  • Lift up on the front panel assembly to release it completely.

Step 13 | Headphone Jack/Vibrator

Do not attempt to remove the vibrator entirely.

  • Insert the sharp end of a spudger into the gap in the corner of the midframe.
  • Gently pry the vibrator loose from its adhesive, but leave it attached to the headphone jack/vibrator assembly.

Step 14

Use the flat end of a spudger to pry out the headphone jack.

  • Gently rock the spudger back and forth until the jack is released from the adhesive.

Step 15

Disconnect the headphone jack/vibrator assembly from the display assembly.
